Beau Nectar Unpack Obsession and Collapse on “Tulip,” Featuring Vox Rea
A historically charged electro-pop meditation on beauty, value, and the fleeting nature of desire

Bilingual electro-pop duo Beau Nectar, made up of singer-songwriters Marie-Clo and éemi, return with “Tulip,” a striking new single that blends sharp pop instincts with historical reflection. Featuring Vancouver’s acclaimed electro-pop duo Vox Rea, the track is a vibrant and unsettling meditation on beauty, obsession, and the inevitability of collapse. Taken from their upcoming album Dandy, out May 2026 via Indica Records, “Tulip” reframes a little-known moment in history as a mirror for the modern world’s volatile standards of value and desire.
The song draws its conceptual backbone from tulipomania, the 17th-century economic bubble in which tulips became so coveted that single bulbs were traded for fortunes, property, and even family members. At its height, the frenzy blurred the line between beauty and currency, transforming flowers into symbols of status, power, and aspiration. Beau Nectar explain, “In the 1600’s, people went to war for the tulip and could even trade their daughters for a simple bulb; that’s how valuable it was. Shortly after its fame, the tulip contracted a virus that caused its colors to go from monochromatic to multiple colors. And just like that, tulipomania was dead.”
Rather than treating this episode as distant history, “Tulip” uses it to interrogate the present. In an era defined by fast-moving trends, social media validation, and constant aesthetic reinvention, the rise and fall of the tulip feels eerily familiar. The song suggests that beauty, once commodified, becomes fragile, subject to sudden shifts in taste and perception. What is celebrated today can just as easily be rejected tomorrow, discarded once it no longer conforms to expectation.
Sonically, “Tulip” captures this tension through contrast. Blending pop, rock, and electro textures, the track balances playful swagger with darker thematic undercurrents. Bright synth lines and chiming guitars are layered beneath stacked harmonies and processed vocals, creating a sound that feels buoyant on the surface while quietly confronting in its emotional depth. As the arrangement leans toward brightness, the subject matter pulls back, revealing the instability beneath obsession and idealization.
The title “Tulip” also carries personal resonance for Beau Nectar. It serves as a linguistic callback to their debut francophone album Two Lips, a wordplay that reflects their shared vocal identity and the collaborative spirit that defines their work. With Vox Rea joining them, the track becomes a meeting point between two duos, both musically and symbolically. The collaboration expands the emotional and sonic palette of the song, reinforcing its themes of connection, exchange, and transformation.
The partnership with Vox Rea came together organically during Marie-Clo and éemi’s residency at the Banff Musicians in Residence program, where the early seeds of “Tulip” were planted. Surrounded by other artists and creative energy, the duo found themselves inspired to write something bold, playful, and conceptually rich. The result is a song that feels strong, sassy, and deceptively educational, offering a darkly playful reminder of how quickly we discard what we once worshipped.
Production duties were shared with Jace Lasek, alongside collaborators Olivier Fairfield and Philippe Charbonneau. Together, they leaned into contrast, fusing rock-driven energy with electronic textures while amplifying harmonies and experimenting with vocal effects. The approach allows “Tulip” to feel expansive and dynamic, honoring Beau Nectar’s artistic vision while pushing their sound into new territory.
Since the release of Two Lips in June 2023, Beau Nectar have steadily built momentum, completing three cross-Canada tours, including one with the prestigious Coup de cœur francophone network. They have opened for artists such as Daniel Bélanger, Pierre Kwenders, and Fanny Bloom, and their work has earned recognition across multiple platforms, including Trille Or Awards, Saskatchewan Music Awards, Western Canadian Music Award nominations, and placement on CBC Music’s Searchlight Top 100.
With “Tulip,” Beau Nectar continue to refine their voice, weaving history, collaboration, and experimentation into a song that questions how beauty is defined, consumed, and ultimately abandoned. It is a track that lingers not only for its infectious melodies, but for the uncomfortable truths it quietly reveals.
