It's 2026. Songs Turning 10 This Year

In 2016, we saw the rise of short form videos and what would lead to the birth of TikTok. We cannot forget the Snapchat filters no matter how cringe worthy some of them might have been. It was also the year in which the hit series Stranger Things debuted.

Fads and trends have come and gone. So much has happened a decade ago but what about the music? One of the most influential parts of pop culture.

In life, so much can change in a decade and that couldn't be more true with music. New sounds are created and innovated. New genres, often blended brilliantly with other genres are formed. 

I feel like it was not long ago when these songs were released and I was hearing them on the airwaves in just about every store and restaurant I walked in. Has a decade since their release really passed?

Here are some of the hits of 2016 turning 10 this year:

Cheap Thrills - Sia ft. Sean Paul

I loved this song the first time I heard it and I still do!

Just within the first few beats, the song consists of a vibe that is near impossible not to dance to.

Furthermore, I love the message! It's about finding the thrill and making the most out of a cheap night out and that one doesn't need to spend extravagantly to have a good time!

I would say it's easily one of my top favorite songs of 2016!

Let Me Love You - DJ Snake ft. Justin Beiber

This was one song that dominated the radio air waves a decade ago. It seemed like you couldn't go into a store or any public place for that matter without hearing it to a point where it felt overplayed. It's also one of those songs that is more difficult to get out of your head more so than others. With a blend of pop and hip-hop, it has a beat that is ideal for both dancing or simply feeling the vibe to.

Handclap - Fitz and the Tantrums

Here's another song from 2016 that has such a fun and dance worthy vibe! With a steady beat that picks up into one that is catchy and near impossible to ignore, "Handclap" is one song that has stuck with me long after 2016. I'd also recommend checking out Fitz and the Tandrums other songs. The tone of a lot of their songs has a unique vibe that's fun and upbeat.

7 Years - Lukas Graham

There are a few songs out there that are more than just a song with a catchy beat. They go deeper and tell a story.

This is one of those songs. A song in which you don't just listen to the music. You listen to the lyrics and reflect. And when you do, you realize that it's filled with so much emotion about life's journey and just how valuable life is. As you listen, you realize you're following a little boy as he grows up into a man learning the hardest and most valuable life lessons along the way.

Stressed Out - Twenty One Pilots

Twenty One Pilots is one of my favorite alternative rock bands and listening to their 2016 hit "Stressed Out" instantly brought back some great memories!

If there couldn't be a more fitting song that relates to the stresses of everyday life! I'm sure many of us wish that we could go back to the days in which we were young and without adult responsibilities. When stress didn't rule our life.

What I love most about this song is how behind such a fun tune is a message about the hard realities of everyday life. And maybe hearing something so relatable is what we need!

I guess it really is true that listening to music is as close as we'll ever get to stepping into a time machine and traveling decades into the past.
