Kendrick Lamar Surpasses Jay-Z For Most Grammys In Hip-Hop History
Kendrick Lamar went into tonight with 22 Grammys, while Jay-Z had 25. Now, Kendrick holds the record thanks to a phenomenal night.

Kendrick Lamar has made history. He now is the hip hop artist with the most GRAMMY® award wins. At last night’s ceremony he picked up enough to hop over Jay-Z. That’s a win for the Compton MC. Just to say you passed the head of the hip hop world is something to claim. He may have even pushed Clipse to win their one and only gramophone.
It is a beautiful thing to behold the currency behind the awards. Lamar has the power in the game to headline the Super Bowl and impacted Tyson Blows to the Face to Drake’s career.
What is so wonderful is that Kung Fu Kenny can do anything he wants in the realm of hip pop. He has risen to the highest heights of the game without even trying hard. His lack of effort belies his hard-hitting lines and metaphors. His best way to showcase his talent is to sometimes go off beat like with “Chains and Whips.” That’s just his passion that he possesses. It exudes through his bars.
The way the lyricist can do anything he wants. While some might argue that the gold statuettes are just trophies and hold little weight, the truth is that the most attention goes to the winner. With the most wins as a rapper, Lamar is in rarified air as he ventilates his words like the work cooking on the stove.
By breathing his lyrics, he is an example of a composer of hip hop greatness even as he dabbles in the pop world. That’s how big this young man is. As he crests the highest earner in rap, Hov, in terms of not money but top awards, Kendrick Lamar is poised to become an even greater player in the game.
If Jay is Jordan then Kendrick is Curry. Get that comparison: Jay-Z has all kinds of stats like MJ and Kendrick is like Curry for holding the highest percentage of MVP votes. Though Kendrick Lamar collaborated with Jiggaman and Jordan never confronted Curry, the numbers add up. And as Curry has yet to eclipse Jordan’s championships, he may just get to that level one day.
That’s the difference between the art world and the sports realm. The amount of competition involved in both planets is the fact that keeps things interesting. That’s the power of the spirit of challenging the self to not be better but to be the best. It’s so profound to see the amount of awards one can earn in just a few moments. K Dot is the example of excellence to be spread about through the universe. For his firepower on anthemic albums to his stirring singles to his feats in features, Lamar has displayed his prowess.
In the moments that led up to his 26 wins at the biggest award show in music, he has ascended to rap royalty by putting in the work. Surrounded by the legends like Snoop Dogg who have scant amount of GRAMMYS® or none at all (Snoop), Kendrick Lamar never sacrificed his craft for obvious ways to present himself. His ability to be a leader among men is a turning point for his relation to the USA. But he’s for the world. On Earth, he has shown himself to be a powerful presence in the popular music realm. With these 26 wins, he has demonstrated the implacable status of someone with sterling integrity.
That’s the amount of power that Kendrick Lamar wields. He has presented a man who can claim the trophies and be confident and selfish despite almost everyone wanting him to humble, sit down even.
