Tammy Reese:
What inspired you to get into the music industry?
Wonder Arillo:
I was inspired by my Dad. He is a musician and an electrical contractor. He inspired me to write songs and learn to play instruments, and when it came time to choose a career, he’s the one who suggested becoming a recording engineer.
Tammy Reese:
What are some memorable moments in your career so far?
Wonder Arillo:
So many. Meeting and working with some of my idols from my youth was especially cool, like 8Ball & MJG, Herbie Lovebug, members of the Dungeon Family and, Wu-Tang. They were my heroes growing up.
Another great memory was joining 2 Chainz for the west coast leg of his B.O.A.T.S. Tour. I was his engineer on the tour bus studio and got to go backstage to every show and meet and greet. I remember in one California town the police officers who were helping escort us to the show, threw a huge bag of weed in the car to him as a gift.
Of course, going to the Grammy’s was awesome and a moment I’ll never forget.
Tammy Reese:
Has the pandemic changed your day to day life? How?
Wonder Arillo:
Yes and no. I’ve always loved the luxury of working from home so that’s been a huge part of my workflow for years. Not much change there.
People gravitating more to social media has been great for my business, it seems like I have a bigger audience when it comes to online marketing. People seem to have more free time and disposable income to spend on music (maybe it’s the stimulus, I’m not sure).
I’m still staying away from clubs and big networking events, but honestly, that was never my thing. It’s kind of a relief to have an excuse not to go.
In my personal life, I’m helping out a lot more with my parents and shopping, etc. It was difficult at first but now I’ve found my balance and I’m enjoying spending more time with family now that everyone has had to slow down and reevaluate what’s important.
Tammy Reese:
What do you love most about the work that you do?
Wonder Arillo:
I love making something from nothing and helping people make their dreams come true.

Tammy Reese:
What are some career challenges you have faced that resulted in a victory for you?
Wonder Arillo:
One of the biggest challenges I faced was right at the beginning of my career. I produced a huge hit and had to battle the record label and my collaborator to get my proper credit and payment. Thanks to a good lawyer and a very supportive family, I was able to secure what was mine and those royalties are still helping support my career and family to this day.
Tammy Reese:
What do you want your legacy to be?
Wonder Arillo:
Greatness. Originality. Someone who brings the very best and all-time favorite songs out of artists.
I just want my music to make people’s lives better. Whether that’s cheering someone up or helping an artist get rich and take care of their family.
Tammy Reese:
What advice would you have for anyone who wants to become a music producer?
Wonder Arillo:
My advice is to find a talented artist and help take them to the next level.
Don’t rush your beats or your business. Be patient and study and learn as much as you can.
Tammy Reese:
Any shoutouts you would like to give?
Wonder Arillo:
Shoutout to my daughters Zoë and Athena, they keep me motivated and make it all worth it.
