Magdalene was a brilliant girl who took her parents advice diligently and completed her studies. On her 25th birthday, her parents gave her the freedom to choose her own partner and reminded her that they would assist by arranging her marriage if she does not find a suitable mate soon.

Magdalene had a high school crush named Paul whom they went to University together. She had pursued him relentlessly for several years but he never liked her. Meanwhile, Peter, who happened to be her course mate and a good brother, told her that he was her secret admirer since year 1 but did not want to reveal it earlier as it would only tear their good relationship apart. He insisted that they take their relationship to the next level.

Mag, a nickname given by her mother, was heart broken and confused and didn't want to think about love. Infact, her parent's birthday wish only brought more depression onto her.

One afternoon, 3 months after her birthday, Mag received a whatsapp message from her mom. She openned it and saw a photo of an old businessman with the caption "let's meet this weekend to discuss your marriage to him". Without thinking, Magdalene picked up her phone and called her mom instantly. "Mah, are you alright? He looks 20 years older than you...even you could call him Papa Daddy!" Mag couldn't believe her parent's choice of her suitable partner. She didn't know whether to laugh, cry or scream so she walked out of her house and headed for the nearby park.

As she was crossing the park, she saw a group of youth volunteers cleaning a drain after the previous night's heavy rainfall. They were laughing and enjoying themselves. They were dirty all over too and did not care. As she stopped to watch, she saw their leader picking up something, said some few remarks and everyone laughed. She saw a youth picking up a broken 1 metre ruler after that, added his humor and sent everyone flat on the ground laughing. They all stopped and turned around when they heard her laugh, and joined her roll of laughter as she approached them.

"Thank you for making me laugh," she said. "Oh no, don't thank us, thank him", said Nellie, a young girl within the group. "It was his idea." She said while pointing to Robert, their Leader. He was so handsome and full of charisma. Robert greeted her and invited her to join the group. For the first time Magdalene felt so relieved and stress free.

Mag and Robert met every day and grew in love. Robert enjoyed making Magdalene laugh and Mag couldn't imagine her world without Robert in it. One day while visiting a bookstore together, Mag found a relationship book and skimmed through the Foreword. It read, "Opposites do attract! The serious, cautious, and introverted melancholic may be mesmerized by a fun-loving, scatterbrained, extroverted sanguine". She smiled, closed the book and handed it over to Robert saying, "Hello Sanguine, I'm a melancholic".

What a charming, warm-hearted story with just the right amount of drama! Robert didn’t just clean drains… he unclogged her emotional pipes too. Who knew love could be found at the bottom of a muddy ditch? ✨
