Barcelona delivered a ruthless performance to dismantle Athletic Club 5-0 and book their place in the Supercopa de España final in Jeddah. Hansi Flick’s side were in scintillating form as they overwhelmed their La Liga rivals, scoring four goals in a devastating first-half spell to put the Supercopa semi-final beyond doubt.

The holders showcased their Supercopa pedigree with a performance that combined relentless pressing, sharp movement and clinical finishing, leaving Athletic Club unable to stem the tide once Barcelona found their rhythm.

The Catalan giants, who are the most successful club in Supercopa history, showed their pedigree from the moment they found their rhythm. Although Athletic Club started brightly and created early chances through Oihan Sancet, Barcelona quickly asserted control and turned the match into a one-sided contest.

Barcelona opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Ferran Torres reacted quickest inside the box to convert from close range after a loose effort from Fermin Lopez. That goal sparked an extraordinary attacking burst which effectively ended the Supercopa tie within minutes.

Just eight minutes later, Fermin Lopez doubled the advantage with a superb finish into the top corner after being picked out by Raphinha. The tempo barely dropped, and Barcelona struck again four minutes later when Roony Bardghji’s low drive slipped under the hands of Athletic Club goalkeeper Unai Simon and crossed the line.

The Supercopa semi-final was completely settled before the break. Raphinha added a fourth in the 38th minute, driving into the penalty area from the left and firing a powerful shot past Simon at the near post. The four-goal blitz made Barcelona the first team in history to score four first-half goals in a Spanish Supercopa semi-final.

After the interval, Barcelona showed no signs of easing off. Raphinha struck again just minutes into the second half, capitalising on a scramble in the box to smash the ball into the net and make it 5-0. His brace capped a dominant individual display and underlined Barcelona’s attacking depth in this year’s Supercopa campaign.

From that point onwards, Hansi Flick’s side controlled possession with ease, limiting Athletic Club to half-chances and ensuring there was no route back into the match. The victory marked Barcelona’s ninth consecutive win in all competitions and reinforced their status as favourites to lift the Supercopa trophy once again.

The result means Barcelona will face the winner of the second Supercopa semi-final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. The final will take place on Sunday in Jeddah, continuing the tournament’s residency in Saudi Arabia after an agreement to host the Supercopa in the country was extended until 2029.

For Athletic Club, it was a sobering evening in which they were unable to cope with Barcelona’s movement, pace and clinical finishing. Despite a promising opening, Ernesto Valverde’s side were overrun once Barcelona found their attacking rhythm.

For Barcelona, the performance was a statement. The combination of youthful energy and experienced attackers proved too much for their opponents, and the Supercopa final now offers another opportunity to add silverware under Hansi Flick. With confidence high and goals flowing freely, Barcelona head into the final as a formidable force in this season’s Supercopa de España.

Barcelona’s emphatic Supercopa victory not only underlined their attacking strength but also highlighted the growing cohesion under Hansi Flick. With nine straight wins in all competitions, confidence is surging within the squad as they prepare for the Supercopa final in Jeddah. Whether they face Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid, Barcelona will enter the decisive match believing they have the momentum, quality and hunger required to lift another Supercopa de España title.
