What if You’re the Reason Nothing is changing?

Relying on yourself as the all-knowing can only take you so far.

Fortunately or unfortunately, we as individuals always feel responsible for our success or failure. Society tends to push such an individualistic mindset where we have to believe that everything depends on us 100% even when we know this not to be the case. Certainly this helps in terms of accountability but also comes with the downside of us always relying on ourselves even when that is counterproductive. There are instances where relying just on your own strength and wisdom isn’t enough, you need others to chyme in else you have no winning chance. Yet even when we recognize this, we still find ourselves doing everything.

When you stop and think for a second, maybe you are the reason nothing is changing, maybe you are getting in your own way without even realizing it. A good example is a business owner who thinks he knows everything about a business despite not having much experience in it, will such a failure be a surprise? Certainly not to me. Likewise, in all the things you are trying to accomplish, possibly the problem preventing you from succeeding is you.

The signs

There are many signs which can tell when you are the problem, things like always making up excuses, blaming others or repeated failures. I think when you are failing at your 4th to 5th attempt it's no longer a question of persistence but maybe you instead. Not knowing what to do is one thing but when you know what to do and still fail, then there is something different at play here.

There are signs that simply don’t lie ,and they tell you clearly why you are going in the wrong direction; the results don’t match your predictions, you are always caught off guard by events, your knowledge is out of phase with what you are doing and much more. We often just choose to ignore these signs because we feel like we must do this because no one else will for us.

Break the cycle

Progress is certainly difficult without accountability, recognizing your own strengths, weaknesses, and flaws is detrimental to growth. Knowing when to continue and when to pivot are essential for anyone in pretty much any endeavor. I know this is hard to do with a society which pushes us into such an individualistic mindset where we have to play every role at the same time but its certainly necessary. Seeking for help and advice is detrimental to our personal growth and development, no one is a master of everything, all what you know today you certainly learned it from somewhere else.

Conclusion

There is a possibility that the roadblock in your life may be coming from you instead of the numerous excuses you are using. Do you lack the knowledge, competence, or maybe you are simply just not a good fit for what needs to be done. That isn’t an insult to you or a proof of weakness; it just simply means your strength lies somewhere else. You can’t force a bird to swim or a fish to fly; they simply aren’t a good match, that’s all. Identify your strengths and weaknesses and find those who might be a better suit for what you are trying to accomplish. Then you can trade services with them.

Relying on yourself as the all-knowing can only take you so far.
