A Favourite Summer Food
Some of my Favourite Summer Fruits and Foods

Introduction To A Favourite Summery Food
This is for the Vocal Summer Food Challenge in conjunction with Camp Plant Based Foods.
Summer is a time for lighter food, often uncooked (by that I don’t mean raw), so I am thinking more salad and fruit based.
My Changing Eating Habits
Over my life I have become more vegan in my eating habits. I am not vegan at all but I love vegan food and recipes. People often ask me how long I have been vegan because of my social media posts, often from eating at the amazing Snackwallah in the Grainger Market in Newcastle which is Indian street food with a daily curry dish which is completely vegan. I actually wrote a poem about how good their food is which you can read below.
So What Are My Favourite Foods For Summer
I have said in the past that I cannot usually say what is my favourite thing in any type of list. So I will try to list a few things that I really like and can often be combined to make something really satisfying.
Even though it is summer I still start my day with porridge with a chopped banana and a little jam. This is always a great start to your day because Porridge is a slow carb release food so you are unlikely to want to nibble and snack before your next meal.
Billy Connoly once said that porridge was the only food in the world that is grey. I know people who cook porridge with water and salt. That is not my particular preference, but it is a permanent favourite of mine.
Although I have mentioned a few types of food I think that fruit is the way to go for summer. So I will also share Pink Floyd's "Apples and Oranges"
Fruit Wise Favourite Foods.
I absolutely love a honeydew melon sliced and cooled in the fridge. I must say scooping out the seeds in their jelly is not hugely pleasant but the taste of the melon is refreshing and tastes amazing. Watermelons are similar although they have a different texture.
Apples are wonderful from the fridge and my favourites are Golden Delicious and Royal Gala, though there are a few others, but again very refreshing from the fridge and especially on a hot summer's day.
Citrus fruits are extremely refreshing and I cut oranges (peeling is awful) but getting a good orange tastes awesomely refreshing.
Conference Pears are another favourite, again very refreshing. I used to avoid Conference Pears as they don’t look too appetising but during the pandemic I took a delivery of a fruit and vegetable box from the Grainger Market in Newcastle and Conference Pears were included.
I let them ripen, tasted them and was hooked. I haven’t tried them from the fridge but that may be something I will try.
I also love bananas , and a close friend thinks my pronunciation of it is hilarious and she keeps asking me to say it if she needs a quick laugh.
Grapes are another wonderful fruit, again take them from the fridge to get the best experience. I don’t mind seedless or seeded, white, black or red, I love them all.
Then there are berries and I love almost all berries, Gooseberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Strawberries, Raspberries and more. I love eating them all individually or as part of something more (cue Porridge)
Others I have missed are Mango, Guava, Peach and Kiwi Fruit and no doubt someone will tell me about others I had missed.
A Summer Food Summary
Although I talked about salads, curry and porridge , the fruits I have listed can be eaten individually or combined to make a super refreshing summer snack or meal. I have eaten fruit today and will keep eating fruit whatever the season is.

Sweet!!!💖💕
A very healthy list of food. And you're right about porridge being a slow release card because it is a complex carb as it not processed. And I didn't know you were into vegan food despite not being a vegan. Overall, I enjoyed reading this
Enjoyed it, you miss my all time favorite fruit, Mr. Watermelon.
