It was a hot summer day. The sun blazed high in the sky, and the land was burning like fire. In the middle of a dry and empty field, a crow flew slowly, his wings heavy with exhaustion. He had been searching for water for days, but every stream had dried, every pond had turned to dust, and the green fields had become barren.
The crow’s throat was dry, and his strength was fading. He thought to himself: *“If I cannot find water soon, this may be my last flight.”* Yet, deep inside, a spark of hope still burned. He knew that giving up was not the way of survival.
He looked around carefully as he flew lower. At last, near the ruins of an old house, he saw a clay pitcher lying on the ground. His heart filled with joy. He quickly landed beside it and peered inside. To his delight, there was water at the bottom of the pitcher.
But the crow’s excitement soon turned into disappointment. The mouth of the pitcher was narrow, and the water was too low for his beak to reach. He tried again and again, but the effort was useless. For a moment, despair touched his heart.
Yet the crow was wise. He refused to give up. He looked around and noticed small pebbles scattered nearby. A clever idea came to his mind. He picked up a pebble in his beak and dropped it into the pitcher. The water rose slightly. He picked another pebble, then another, and dropped them one by one. With every pebble, the water level rose higher.
At last, after dropping many pebbles, the water reached the top of the pitcher. The crow bent down and drank deeply. His thirst was quenched, his life saved. With renewed energy, he spread his wings and flew away, leaving behind a lesson that has lived for generations.
This simple story carries a powerful message for humans as well. Life often presents us with difficulties that seem impossible to overcome. At times, problems appear so large that solutions seem out of reach. But if we, like the crow, remain patient and use our intelligence, we can find a way.
The thirsty crow teaches us:
- Success is not always about strength; it is often about wisdom and strategy.
- Every problem has a solution if we do not give up.
- Hope is the key to survival. As long as we keep trying, we will eventually succeed.
In our own lives, there are moments when we feel hopeless—when challenges surround us and no escape seems possible. But by staying calm, thinking clearly, and working steadily, we can overcome the hardest trials.
