A butterflies kiss
A fantasy world
”Loli, it’s time for bed.” I heard my mom calling from the bottom of the stairs. I smiled knowing that it was bedtime, and that meant story time. I could go on wild adventures, see magical creatures, and find my prince. I quickly picked up my barbies, and put them away, got dressed for bed, and brushed my teeth. I made sure all of the lights were out in my bedroom, hallway, and bathroom. The only lights I turned on were my twinkle lights above my bed strung across my headboard and up the wall in a wavy pattern, like waves on my wall. Sometimes the shadows casted animals along the lights and we would talk to each other.
I gathered up a few pillows for my mom so she could lay beside me comfortable. Quickly found out the more she was comfortable the longer my stories would be. I tucked myself under my blankets tucked Veronica my favorite doll under my arms and waited.
It didn’t take long for my mom to get to my room, she was smiling when she saw Veronica and I waiting. She climbed on the bed and asked what she should read tonight.
I said, “ let’s make up a fairy tale mommy.”
“What a great idea” she responded. We made up funny characters with our hands in the shadows cascading from the twinkling lights. It was so much fun. It was hot in my room so my mom got up and opened the window for the breeze to come in my room. She bent over and gave me a kiss on the cheek and said, “may your dreams take you to another adventure my little one.” I smiled and rolled over.
The twinkling lights fluttered in the wind and I made a few shadow puppets talking to Veronica. When the most beautiful orange and black butterfly flew threw the window. She sat on the end of my nose looking at me, she looked like she wanted to say something.
Then she flew over to Veronica and kissed her on the cheek. Veronica woke up and started to giggle, “that tickles Marabelle, please kiss Loli I want her to play with us,” looking at the butterfly. Marabelle flew over and kissed me on the cheek and I shrunk so small I got lost under the covers.
Veronica searched for me and said “there you are” and picked me up with her tiny fingers and placed me on Marabelle’s back. Then Marabelle flew around in a circle and Veronica was small like me. We both laughed. Just then another butterflies flew in and scooped up Veronica. The two butterflies headed out the window.
I looked back and saw my huge room with the twinkling lights. This was amazing, the wind blew us around for a bit but soon Marabelle adjusted to me being on her back! The wind on my face felt like it was going to blow me off but Marabelles Antenas wrapped around me like a seat belt. We swooped and flew over the house and I could see my mom reading in the chair in the living room.
Marabelle said, “where to Loli?”
I said, “ to the playground please.” The lights zoomed passed us like we were on a train whisking by in an underground tunnel. The sounds of the wind, the butterflies wings were loud like a helicopter, and for a moment I felt like I was a pilot! I felt free. Being so little made me feel not so little in my big body anymore. I thought that Veronica and I could rule the world. The excitment was contagious because Veronica was screaming beside me. “This is amazing!”
It was hard to hear with the flaps of the wings going so fast! I saw her, she was happy, she was free from her doll’s body able to move, talk, and scream!
“Wahooo”, I screamed looking at her. All of a sudden the butterflies swooped down like a roller coaster and brought us to the slide. It was so HUGE! I couldn’t believe my eyes. Then I looked again and I could see tiny ants making a ladder with their babies to climb so they could go down the slide. I was now off of Marabelle standing beside Veronia. She said “don’t worry we will be fine.” Then one of the big ants came over to us and handed us a leaf to sit on. He then chewed four wholes for us to hold on to. He looked at us and said “hang on!”
Wow! The excitment, my blood was pumping so fast, my heart rate was a million miles an hour and down we went. It was crazy. The feeling like being on a water slide but a hundred miles faster! This was awesome. At the bottom we looked up, the huge slide and Veronica yelled “follow me!”
We followed the baby ants up the moving stairs! It was incredible how strong these ants were. They were suspended in a straight line beside the slide, then curved over to the top where Marabelle was waiting. At he top I felt like I just climbed Mount Everest. It was incredible! I yelled” I’m on top of the World!” Beside me was a tiny ant, she crawled up my pant leg on to my shoulder and looked over the edge. She started shaking. I said, “don’t worry little one we will take care of you!” She grabbed on to my hair and sat on my shoulder for one more slide! The tiny ant was so excited, she was hollering and screaming all the way down. I felt so big that I could help her slide on her first time.
At the top of the slide I jumped back on Marabelle, and Veronica jumped on Andrew’s back. We both waved goodbye to the tiny ant while she was hugging her mom. Veronica looked at me and said, “can we do this tomorrow night Loli?”
I looked at her and said, “I would love to, I wonder what adventure we can do tomorrow?” She smiled as we flew back to my bedroom window, we jumped off of the two butterflies and thanked them for such a great adventure. I layed down, and so did Veronica. The two butterflies flew around us and in a blink of an eye we were big again, but Veronica was back to being my doll.
“Mommy, I loved the story tonight. Do you still have Veronica? I would love to have her for my doll.” I looked at her and said, yes Mercadies, I will get her for you. But, you must remember to take very good care of her, she is an heirloom from many generations . She just may take you on an adventure too!” I walked into the living room and my husband said, “ Loli did you remember to open up the window?” I said, “I sure did” smiled and picked up a book to read!
