Alex and Andy were sitting on Andy's front porch on summer day
bored out of their minds. They were thinking of maybe going and
catching some fish down at the river, but how would they get down there for they would need someone to
drive them. Who could they get? They sat there for it seemed quite a while till they thought of their friend
Edward who had a brother who could drive clear down to
Front Street where the old men usually went to tell their 'fish' stories to whomever would listen. Alex and Andy in a way liked to hear old Mister
Grant tells his stories especially the ones that always seem to have the fish get away.
However, when they got to Edward's house no one was home. Who else could we ask? They sat for a while and they thought. Are we near any bus stops that go down there? Yeah, but what if we catch any fish will be able to ride the bus home? They didn't think so and started thinking again.
Instead of trying to think of someone they just decided to see if one of their parents could take them down to the river. They walked the short way back to Andy's house and Alex went to his house. Each of them had to think of a way to ask, but when they got in their front doors and
judging what was going on in each of their houses it wasn't going to happen, but they asked them anyway for a ride to the river so they can try to catch some fish. Alex's parents were busy painting the living room, so he went back outside, and began
kicking a rock down the sidewalk beginning to wonder if they were ever going to go fishing. He saw Andy coming out his front door and he started waving his hands to come over to his house for he asked his dad who called for his big brother
Larry to drive them down to the river. Andy was so surprised at the fact that Larry usually did not want to be bothered to help Andy do anything. Andy just thought maybe Larry had something up his sleeve, so he agreed to take Andy and Alex fishing. "What do you really want Larry?" "You know me so well." Well, there is something. Spit it out, Larry.
Michele wants me to meet her at the diner on the docks kind of where you two want to fish, I believe.
Naturally, Andy was thinking something was up with his brother for
occasionally things just to work out, but Larry and Andy's parents did not know anything about this Michele. Larry and to
pay Andy somehow for keeping this secret from their parents. Alex came up to Andy and just shook his head and said, "Let's go!" They gathered their fishing rods and hopped in Larry's car and off they went.
Quickly they got out of the car and started walking the block down to the docks after Larry told them to back at this diner in about two hours. They agreed for two hours of fishing was quite long enough even if one was lucky enough to catch anything. They both decided than
rather than catching fish they decided to go the pier and maybe go on a few rides and maybe get a few
snacks and maybe even share with Larry when they get back to the diner in a few hours.
They got to the pier only to see Larry and Michele there getting to the bumper cars. Andy and Alex did not want to intrude for they
understood in only in a way a brother knew that Larry did not want to be bothered by them when he was with a girl. Andy and Alex were not quick enough, and Larry saw them and ran over to them while Michele was talking to a few of her girlfriends in a
Voluminous voice or simple talking like she wanted everyone to know who she was with. If she was talking like that why did Larry want to keep Michele a secret from their parents.
When they saw Larry and Michele walking back to the car they decided they better head back to for it was a long walk home. How would they
eXplain why they didn't catch anything fishing after a day at the pier. They could tell each other's parents that there was just so many people
yelling and splashing in the water that it was way too noisy to catch anything, and they decided to walk the pier rather
zealously in search of Larry to bring them home. Larry and Michele ran into them asking if they were ready to leave. Michele went with her friends and Larry drove us home. He dropped us off Alex went to his house and Andy to his house. Larry said, "Remember don't tell mom and dad, okay." We shook our heads and that was it.
(Note: It is so hard try to think of an 'X' word so I decided to do what I did, you can see.)

What a work! To start each line with the next letter in the alphabet. There's one point and the end where 'they' turns to 'us' , then back to 'they'. Was that on purpose? It felt like a revealing of who Andy and Alex really is.
❤️❤️ This story was an excellent exercise for the brain. By slowing the pace and keeping the first words in line with the alphabet, you created a very deliberate rhythm. Larry was such a sneaky character, and using the fish as an anchor was a clever way to keep the narrative focused.
Thank you
Love it.
