The Box within the Box

I guess you could have I really have gotten myself into a world of trouble, but trouble was really putting it mildly when it felt more like a chaotic cryptic nightmare. But that wasn’t how it really all started, it actually all happened shortly after the death of my uncle. He pretty much raised me as my guardian, but he was more like a father to me. Yet during the night of his funeral had left me with a lot more questions than answers into how he really died. What turned that night where I thought I was going to cry myself to sleep turned into a night of pure mystery as a mysterious box was dropped off from a drone at 11 o’clock at night. My first thought when it arrived was that it must have been a mistake or a practical joke. But it was far from when I started to open the box and see a letter that was written from Jimmy Rhodeway who was my uncle’s best friend since high school. The letter stated “Eden! What happened to your uncle was anything far from fate or destiny and the truth that we both know now is that he was killed. But for what reason I do not know, and I was hoping you could probably help solve his murder by trying to open this box he left for you. I found it stashed underneath his desk as I was clearing out his office and there were two letters left on top. One of them was addressed to me! I guess your uncle knew I would find this somehow and he must have known I would be the one giving this box to you. Whenever you get that box opened call me right away!”

Suddenly a rush of anxiety smacks me hard across my face that I almost feel like I have gone numb. Here I go from grieving to confusion and now I almost feel angry, but I know that my uncle wanted me to know something. What was he hiding that could have led to his death, but I know I can’t let this go unsolved because based upon what Jimmy said it almost sounded like a lot of people could possibly be in danger? But I knew right away that I was soon going to be the actual one that would be in danger.

I then decide to read the letter my uncle wrote for me but it was not something I expected at all.

“My sweet beloved Eden I’m writing you this letter in the wake of my death. I know that I will soon be meeting my maker and I still do not know myself how to tell you all of what I have been studying, gathering and collecting a lot of information for so many years that were never made aware of. But now the time has come for you finally learn the truth about everything I knew that all of these secrets would never be buried forever. But I still have my responsibility as your father figure and that you deserve to know the truth and that I still wish for you to have. I admit I will say this once you open that box and see the contents of what is inside, you have every right to learn more about what I discovered, or you can just walk away from it all. However, if you choose to go forward and solve the clue to the whereabouts of the key to the box please be aware that what I have gotten myself into has a lot of dangers that you will have to face around every corner. Trust no one, the only person from here on out that you can trust is yourself. Always take care of yourself and never fall of the path just always know my rose there is nowhere you can go that will not be with you always. Remember I am always by your side Eden. Love, Uncle Ted.”

My heart has ached terribly for my uncle ever since I received that call that my uncle’s heart had stopped beating. Now my heart aches even more for him knowing that my uncle’s death went from heart attack to now a possible murder! But I swear whatever is in this box has my imagination going wild and I’m really taking my uncles words to heart about it being dangerous with whatever he was working on. I have no idea what I am about to get into but I am to the point where I would rather know than never know at all. I know the risk I am about to take but this is the risk I am willing to walk, stand and tall to know truth. But for now I need to solve this clue to find the key to open the box. The clue states at the bottom of the letter

“In a world where in our darkest moments there is light, where even love is brightest in the dark. Where beautiful creatures live within the world around us that are hidden in plain sight. There are endless stories of love and beauty hidden within these pages that are just waiting to be discovered. You don’t have to travel far hear of these tales for they are all around you!”

All I can say so far is “wow what a clue!” I never knew my uncle could be cryptic with words and I never knew how good he is at making clues. He never seemed like the type that could have a way with words because he was more of a sports, technology, and engineering kind of guy. Now he is suddenly sending me on a scavenger hunt not knowing where it could possibly lead me. The first that is now coming to my mind is I need coffee like ASAP! I’m literally going to have to break this blue down piece by piece. But my uncle also knows that I would obviously figure out this clue some way or somehow because he knew how much of a book person I was. Then again, he knew that I also had a fascination for mysteries, and this was a true mystery but without scooby doo and the gang. After I finished brewing a cup of coffee and adding my favorite coconut creamer, I am just about ready to solve this clue. But as I was making the coffee, I was sure I just about got this clue solved. Uncle Ted wanted it to be an easy clue for me to solve and he knew that it would have to be that one relates to me and two it would also have to be about something I loved. I was right because it mentions pages so that must mean the pages within a book. But what book would it be in? I look one more time at the clue then I see “hidden in plain sight” that also means the name of the book is apart of the clue, and the book must be here in the house because it says I don’t need to travel far. It obvious its “Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl” that’s my favorite fantasy novel series. I know some people loved the Twilight saga, but I always loved the Caster Chronicles more. There was just something about their love that I could never forget, even though they were in a world full of magic I always felt that it was a fantastical world to be a part of. Sure, enough I go over to the bookshelf in the study and pull out the book and I quickly flip through the pages and then I hear a clink. Then lowing behold the key I’ve been looking for however, there was something unusual about this key as I picked it up and looked at it closer. The key was glowing this iridescent shade of violet very faintly in a way the key looked as if it was giving off its own energy. But how is that possible no normal key is like this on earth. This was too real for me to be imagining it but when you put strange packages being delivered at night and your uncle sending on a mystery hunt then I guess I really should be prepared for the unexpected. Any way the time has come to finally unlock the box. I take the key to box and it’s a perfect fit. I stop dead in my tracks for a quick pause to just breath because I don’t know what other surprises await me from here on out. I can’t stand the suspense anymore so I just go ahead and get it over with and open the box. Then just like I’m feeling now really confused…a books! Like he went through all this trouble for a couple of books but it just didn’t make any sense like why books. Sure enough I open the first one that is blue with a with a crescent moon on it and it has a rose in the center of it. Now I feel almost sure this was meant for me because my uncle would always refer to me as his rose as a term of endearment. I go ahead and open the book and begin to read some of the pages and I am struck by all these symbols and then I see a page talking about the cycles of the moon. What happens during certain retrogrades and using crystals and using plants. Then it dawned on me this is a spell book! I then look at the other book and its my uncles diary and then I can see a piece of paper hanging out of the pages of the book and it’s another note.

“Eden so you chose to open the box I’m really glad you made the right choice. Believe me when I said it before do not trust anyone even those that are close to both you and I. However, you can go ahead and rule out Jimmy because he was actually the one that helped fake my death. I have gone into hiding I can’t tell you when or where I will see you again but we will see each other again real soon once the dust is settled. But I want to ahead and get to the point with you my rose, we come from a long line witches and warlocks. I have been studying magic and using it for a long time and this book has been made especially for you. Each witch has their own book that is given to them on their 18th birthday and this has always bene yours I actually wanted to give to you a little earlier than that. Inside it you will find spells that will protect you until we meet again. For now be careful and watch your surroundings there are mortals out there that want to us to use our power for nefarious deeds which was why I had to go into hiding. Because I had been discovered after I helped save that employee of mine from burning to death. Now its up to you Eden don’t let anyone know your secret and don’t let anyone know now what you really are. The key you have unlocks many doors and there are doors to other places you can go to that are far beyond anything you could imagine. This key is also part of the next clue I have for you. This next clue along with the key will open the door to a bigger part of this world you need to learn more about.”

I could not fathom all of what I was reading, here I am I go from normal girl to now witch girl. I know I loved reading about mysteries and magical romance but this was not what I thought at all would be in that box. Now I’m already starting to regret even opening up that box. But then again what matters most now is that my uncle lives. If this is really now my destiny I might as well start learning and begin to start solving this next clue, because now for this next one I have to really start thinking outside the box for this one. All I can say is I hope this key doesn’t also open up anymore boxes.
