The EPAS1 Gene
The real mermaid gene

long ago when hominids of every kind walked the earth, there was a stout hominid who escaped the brutal creatures of the land by seeking refuge high above the clouds, where the giant cats would not go, nor the wolve packs to hunt them. A life of survival meant that stout little Denisovan, with short knees and a penchant for climbing, would start to build their encampments, rather than live in caves.
They felt safe among the trees, high above the clouds, where a giant cat could not stalk them, for the danger was among the steep rocks, to be crushed like a nut by a single bite of a prowling cat. Other creatures, like the black and white bear, seemed to have no trouble with the cats, as they were herbivores, who could disguise themselves in the snow capped mountains, and feed off new shoots that came through the snow.
So the Denisovans made friends with the giant herbivore bears and made a deal to share survival with each other, in return for the bears protection, they would instead now hunt the giant cats.
And because resources were so little on the mountain, not one shred of animal went to waste. The Denisovans, had learned to use every scrap of skin from hunted cats, as scraped leather for shoes, furs for clothing, teeth beautifully carved into rings, and bones carved into knives and needles. They watched black and white bear twist and gnaw the fresh shoots, and realized the fibrous content could make textiles and rope and nets, and soon over the years their system had become a complex web and ecosystem in the high trees, defended by bears below.
But in the space of 10,000 years, the snow capped mountains changed, the control of the big cats population had left the stout Denisovan vulnerable to attacks from another brutal hominid.
There were stories among the Denisovans, who were the first to speak, and communicate their plans upon a drawing in the ground or on a cave wall, and the only way they could survive was to outsmart the brutes on the outside. The kidnappings continued and their meager populations fleeing higher into the mountains became lost, but a myth in the wind.
The brutes below survived for another 50,000 years, and had learned, it was easier to absorb clans around them, than fight to survive, and a trade was set up to further their newfound comforts that made way in the recession of giant creatures, and demons that had once plagued the world.
They forgot about the Denisovans, and spread all over the world, using the skills they had integrated from them until no one knew from where the skills had come. But. The mothers of the kidnapped Denisovans, and the mothers thereafter, carried a gene that could help them survive in the high climates of the Denisovans.
Even though their race was now just a myth, the daughters among the brute hominids, kept their stout stature, large lung capacity, and were sexually quite dimorphic from their males.
As time wandered into the present era of the last 10,000 years, the Denisovans were not just forgotten, but a story used as a myth to tell tales to their children, to tell them if they were bad, they would be kidnapped by the little mountain people. The myths carry on to this day. But what the new Sapien hominid didn’t realize, is that the first generations who chose not to leave that continent retained the Denisovans genes, of EPAS1.
EPAS1 is triggered in hypoxic situations with a lack of oxygenated air. This, at high altitude, the Denisovans could easily regulate their metabolism, because by switching from carbs to fat metabolisis, they could use the MORE energy from double bonded fats, compared to single bonded molecules of starches and carbohydrates.
The physique of the stout Denisovan, regulated body temperature more easily in changing extremes, and their unusually large barrel shaped ribs, where thicker and offered more hardiness and protection in the rugged terrain from injuries. The sacrifice for their ability to defend themselves was to not suffer pain, but instead all their senses were turned toward the ability to detect pressure changes, and sound that carried far and far away. Their senses were so refined, it was not uncommon for these first hominids to suffer some kind of synesthesia, and if perchance they became old (which seemed to happen a lot more than the brute sized hominids) they often were explained as the elders who spoke to the ancestors. The thing about the highly sensitive brain of the Denisovan mutation, was that it was capable of integrating different senses to detect danger, and because they were not fast and stride full as the other hominids, the nerves became more like sensing antenna, but not dedicated to pain response.
The women of this new tribe, that had now become more alike to their brute kin, although there seemed an unusual stoutness of slight frame among those in various regions, were happy to remain ashore and not use their bodies for war.
And as they stayed along the shores, waiting for their partners to return from tribal pillaging, strolling and paddling and gathering among the marshes and water edges, became a way of sustenance. But some part in them, had not forgotten the ways of their ancestral Denisovans, they discovered the pearls in the shoreline mouths of shells, and soon became delicately constructing them into Jewellery and trinkets of passion, which small villages now became specialized in, and in particular the women, dove for to increase their gathering horde.
The women from all the shores around, became fisher women no more than 4-5ft tall, who could use their hypoxic traits to their advantage by diving deeper than any male, and coping with the range of temperatures, especially with their hardy lack of ability to feel pain. They became known as dragon wives, ama women, sea gypsies and more.
Their spleens were enlarged because of diving - but this wasn’t adaption, this was a combination of genetics. EPAS1 when triggered, tells the bone marrow to produce MORE red blood cells for oxygen, and more stem cells that would later on become immune cells. And the spleen, was storage for it all. Additionally on deep dives, the spleen acted as a buffer to squeeze more oxygenated blood into their bodies. These adapted people were effectively “oxygen batteries” able to do one or two 3 minute dives every tide.
Additionally they developed a high pressure breathing technique to easily charge their blood ready for the next dive, and be used as a calling card for their friends, that they were indeed safe in the sea, and each person in the group would be reassured that the high pitched whistle or song was one of their friends signatures.
In high altitudes with little oxygen, one compensates by squeezing air through tight lips or a pressed tongue, so that the increased air pressure in the lung, puts more oxygen transfer into the body. And with an enlarged spleen, one can effectively charge themselves up over a period of time, to have more oxygen ready for a dive, and last longer before the body senses hypoxia and gives a person these diaphragm contractions. It would seem that mostly women were at sea, laughing together as a group and wailing or singing or whistling strange sounds of a whale or dolphin.
Enough for a modern Western sailor, to think these Nubian creatures of the sea were some kind of luring nymph. Or “the sea wyff “ as they were referred to. With such letcherous intent of taking one as wife while at sea, 90 days into their treacherous and lonely adventure.
The stories returned to the western shores, with prolific statements about evil and witchcraft and demonization of these happy Nubian females. For how else could a male of the Western Hemisphere, starved of sex, driven crazy to his madness to steal, capture or rape a sea wyff. They brought tales back demonizing these women, to cover and justify killing them with harpoons, keeping them trapped in barrels, blaming them for scuttling at the reef bed, and all manner of superstitious blasphemy to hide their lustful awful intent.
Nobody knew the wiser, that they were just women, who stayed in the eastern hemisphere, close to their Denisovan ancestors who gave them the power of mermaids. Science, had not gotten that far, and indeed it is too late, for there are less than a thousand of these artisanal fisherwomen now. Among the 60,000 there were just a few decades ago. And modern dredging and fishing, has raped the waters so that nobody needs these traditional water keepers, wardens of the seas, gentle ecosystem minders who saw the health of their reefs slowly wither away.
They even forgot where they came from, such that even to this day, no one knows about the EPAS1 gene, and it’s superhuman tendencies. EPAS1 triggered upon hypoxia, not only produces more blood cells and stem cells for the immune system, but truggers the maturation of new blood vessels, it triggers a growth factor for extremely fast new blood capillaries, which is the source of healing.
EPAS1, heals skin tissue in twice the speed. Because it also creates NEW stem cells from the yellow marrow in our bones, this not only boosts the immune system, but they can be transformed and used as extra motor neurons within a single muscle cell. If a muscle cell normally has one nucleus, EPAS1 can stuff more nuclei into it, giving the muscle strand many more activation points through the cell, enabling more contraction, faster and stronger reactions, and ultimately connecting a motor neuron to multiple places in the muscle cell.
EPAS1, from the Denisovans, creates superhumans who are able to heal quick, gain strength quick, and use less oxygen for longer periods of times. These traits don’t just appear, they have to be stressed before attenuating. One cannot increase breathhold unless one is challenging their personal limits, so one does not know about EPAS1 unless they have by chance discovered a cut on the face heals so quick, or they feel little pain, or they can gain ridiculous strength quickly after a challenge.
However, there are traits of EPAS1 that don’t require a challenge. It is the thin-skinned brain sensitivity, particularly to sounds and pressure. The Denisovans were sensitive people, their “arts” came from an abstraction that is not present in many people. We all have the ability for abstract thinking, but for it to become an artful skill, one must have almost autistic traits that enable the person to perceive the world differently from most, by triangulating and integrating different senses together. How does EPAS1 affect this?
EPAS1 contributes to angiogenesis, a fast formation of new blood vessels, and thus a fast healing of endothelial tissue. During the age of 5-15 years old, the brain undergoes changes called “pruning” where senses and processes that are not needed are simply - removed. However, the pruning effect happens much faster in people of autistic traits, the brain is thinning out faster, and senses start to-cross connect or cross wire, but then any use of these synesthetic changes make them hard-wired. A part of that person forever.
It does however mean, that certain language production centers will be impeded, especially in the case of emotional overload. One might find that emotions are muted -“alexythymia” and pain is also processed as part of our emotional matrix, so pain is simply eroded also.
EPAS1 is triggered under environmental forces, and if not triggered in early life, will not produce a full range of super skill. But for those that unintended to bump into these talents, these talents remain after the 15th year of childhood.
But there is a downside to EPAS1. Angiogenesis, the formation of mature blood supply, is what cancer needs to grow. Cancers GROW only with angiogenesis, the mechanism by which Cancers are impeded, is when the immune system is triggered by pain, to know there is something wrong and concentrate the to the fight of unusual tissue that is suffocating other areas around.
No matter how much the body tries to clean the area by sending in white blood cells to fight, these cells die and turn into pus, causing the cancer to be effusive and discharging copious pus, while starved and necrotized tissue continues. The immune system instead of fighting the hungry cancer for more blood supply, simply cleans away the starved and dead tissue into more pus.
EPAS1, is therefore responsible for many endothelial cancers, of the stomach, upper intestine, mouth and tongue. And the immune system simply can’t seem to see it, because the Denisovan gene prevents one from utilizing the pain response to tell immune cells in the area “my cells are dying!”.
The answer is of course to massively stimulate sensation in that area - using ultrasound to pierce through locally, heat the tissue up and potentially destroy a few cancer cells with apotosis, enough for the immune system to specifically recognize the cancer that is responsible for starving nearby tissue into necrotic pus-effusive poison.
Well. The story I’m telling you is real, today only Tibetans carry the EPAS1 gene, and a dwindling 9% of Chinese in the southern region. There are myths carried over in 19th century maps of people in the south China seas, who have one arm and one leg of a man, the other a woman, who live themselves and fight for filial loyalty. And these myths were to demonize the pirates of the south China seas, my ancestor was one of them. She ruled the south China seas and became a scourge to the emperor, and so the myths started about these demonic people who were half man and woman. But, these Pirate women became, with the strength of men, simply because their villages of “sea wyffs” needed protection from the western merchants, who lied and raped their people.
My Pirate ancestors had come about from these same sea-villages, of fisherwomen and artisans, and simply found, that they could turn the tides against men, by amassing a fighting fleet at sea - where their strengths were at an advantage. They profited by pursuing and accompanying Merchants with a promise of safe passage for a toll. And taxed all their trade, overseeing that the men from the west, would it indeed rape and kill or steal their valuable sea wyff mermaids.
It is said, pearls come from the tears of mermaids, because these very same western men, pillaged and raped our wives, until our women leaders vowed to protect all of us, by becoming pirates. Now of course, I only bear the stories and a few trinkets from these people, and I too share their EPAS1 gene.
