Los Angeles Comic Con

The best convention of the year

By Alexandrea CallaghanPublished 7 months ago 3 min read

There are comic book conventions all over the country at all times of the year. I get to attend a lot of them and after some extensive attendance I am proud to say that I do have a favorite. Now all conventions have their merits, some are smaller and easier to navigate. The larger ones offer plenty of new things to get excited about, and San Diego Comic Con is legendary for a reason. But the best convention, the one I look forward to every year is Los Angeles Comic Con.

LACC routinely has SDCC caliber guests, an extremely traversable convention floor with amazing artists, and some unique and wonderful panels. The convention is large enough to house every type of nerd's favorite things, but not so large that my disabled body is wrecked after the weekend.

They have started announcing their guests for 2025 and the lineup so far is incredible. Let’s start with one of the biggest games of the last several years. Baldur’s Gate 3 took the gaming world by storm. For existing fans it was a long awaited experience and for some of us it was the perfect gateway to gaming. Tim Downie (Gale), Aliona Baranova, Maggie Robertson (Orin), Jennifer English (Shadowheart), Devora Wilde (Lae’zel), and Neil Newbon (Astarion) will be taking the stage at LACC. This is the first time I have been excited for gaming talent and I truly can not wait to see them in person.

If you aren’t much of a gamer but you are an MCU fan then I have some good news for you as well. The stars of WandaVision, Paul Bettany and the beautiful, perfect, wonderful Elizabeth Olsen will be in attendance. Joining them will be Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), John Bernthal (Frank Castle), Vincent D’Onofrio (Kingpin), and Eldon Henson (Foggy Nelson). The cast of Daredevil is an exciting addition to the guest list. The MCU took the nerd world by storm and its staying power is something to be studied. Fans should be ecstatic about the talent attending this year.

For all you time travelers out there we once again have Doctor Who at LACC. A couple of years ago we had the pleasure of seeing Matt Smith on the main stage and this year we get to welcome David Tennent (The Doctor), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) and Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones). David fulfills a wide nerd need and both women make up a majority of the fandom's favorite companions. This is a must see main stage panel.

For any millenial/gen Z animation fans there will be a Phineas and Ferb reunion. Vincent Martella (Phineas), David Errigo Jr. (Ferb), and Alyson Stoner (Isabella and about 8000 other things from your childhood) will be coming together to fill your ears and hearts with memories.

And finally for lovers of horror movies everywhere there will also be a Scream reunion. Everyone’s favorite dude, Matthew Lillard will be in attendance. Alongside him will be David Arquette, Jamie Kennedy and Skeet Ulrich. Sure to make any millennial heart happy. All of our favorite teenage crushes in the same place.

My favorite thing about Los Angeles Comic Con is that it's not only packed with talent but it is extremely affordable. The most expensive single day tickets are $50 and 3 day passes are just over $100. It is easily the cheapest convention for the value you are getting. Chris De Moulin and the team at LACC work so hard to bring locals and visitors an unforgettable experience every year. It continues to be my favorite convention of the year and I am so lucky that I live right here and get to experience the whole thing.
