30-Day Anime Challenge: Day 13

By animetipzPublished about a year ago 4 min read

Welcome to day 13! I did a 30-day anime challenge last year and had a blast with it. It would be fun to do it again this year. Let’s see if my tastes have changed at all in a year.

Here is day 12 in case you missed it.

The purpose of these challenges is to post a picture, but I, being the extra person I am, will write a blog about each topic.

This differs from what I am used to blogging, which excites me to test my creativity and go back to find the answers to these writing prompts.

Feel free to join me in the comments below! I’d love to hear your answers too!!

Day 13 My Favorite Supernatural Anime

I think supernatural is a broad term. It is caused by forces or things that cannot be explained by science, which is a lot of anime. I tried to break down this list into what I think of when I think of the supernatural.

I’m going to apologize in advance because there are some repeats from previous days, but I think all of these anime have a supernatural theme and are my favorites in that genre. You are also going to notice a lot of horror anime.

Angels of Death

This is easily one of my favorite anime. This might be a stretch for supernatural but Google says it is so I am adding it to the list. This show reminds me a lot of the Saw movies. They throw you into a story where you don’t know anything about the characters or how they got there but they need to escape fast. As they clear the levels of the building you discover more about each of the characters. The depth of each of the characters is amazing, The plot twists along the way will keep you on your toes every episode, and the ending gave me the chills. This might have had the best conclusion to a horror anime that I have ever seen.

Although this isn’t an extremely graphic show, The content covered in this anime talks a lot about murder and suicide. If those topics are triggering for you this is your warning.

The Future Diary (Mirai Nikki)

This might be one of the craziest stories ever written. I was completely hooked on episode 1. High levels of thrill and plot twists will make your head spin. It is very gory and has some very graphic and disturbing content including sexual assault and abuse, If you cannot handle these topics this show might not be for you. But if you need a thrilling, heart-racing, mind-exploding anime this is for you. You have to watch the OVA episode right after you finish or you will be left with a sour taste in your mouth. I watched this show a while ago and recently rewatched it and can confirm I didn’t see what was coming even though I had already seen it. Let me know if your jaw was on the floor the last 5 episodes.

Wonder Egg Priority

I was completely caught off guard when I started Wonder Egg Priority. I knew it was going to be scary, however the deep storyline and graphic scenes made my stomach turn. This is a creative fantasy that brings to light real issues. This anime is not for the weak of the heart. This anime deals with suicide, abuse, and so much more in a creative way. For only 12 episodes it will change your few points on life.

Death Note

Death Note was one of the best anime of my time. I almost didn’t add it to this list but remembered the shinigami and figured that counted enough to be supernatural. I remember binging it and my little teen brain being exploded by the peek fiction I was seeing. I have rewatched Death Note multiple times and read the manga and it never gets old. I still talk about Light’s motives, if he was the villain, and what someone would do if they had the power of the death note. This anime is almost 20 years old and still being as popular as it is shows how amazing the story truly is.

Durarara!!

When thinking of supernatural anime Durarara!! Was the first to come to mind. I remember finding this anime and being blown away by the wild story, loving the unique characters, and overall being more invested in this show than any other. I still love Durarara!! and rewatched it this past year only to see the same shock and love for it that I had over 10 years ago. I can’t put into words how this anime makes me feel nostalgic, but I can say when you find your favorite anime you just know, and after that, you watch a lot of good shows but none come close to your favorite.

I am not sure if all of these anime meet the qualifications to be supernatural anime, however, they are my favorites that match the category.

What's your favorite supernatural anime? What do you think of when you hear supernatural?
