Have big goals for 2025?

Let’s be realistic. Hitting them alone won’t be as easy as writing them down, right?

Anyway, the good news is… we don’t have to do it alone.

Earlier, I wrote about how showing up and going the extra mile are the secret ingredients of rockstars (those who are crushing it in their fields).

By showing up wholeheartedly and always going the extra mile, these habits will build momentum for success.

Now, having momentum is great, but when there is an additional and constant guide to keep us on track, fast-tracking to success should be almost guaranteed, right?

InsyaAllah. Read on 😉

.

Momentum: The Force Behind Progress

Let’s revisit momentum first.

Success in everything we do isn’t about making a single grand gesture. It’s about the little things we do consistently.

That’s where momentum is built.

For example: It’s hard to shed the kilos, right? But when we start watching what we eat, exercising and doing that every day without losing momentum, we will eventually be rewarded with a slimmer build.

Right?

The same goes for Sales and anything else we want to apply this concept to.

In sales, those prospecting calls we make, the follow-ups we do, the ads and content we write, the sales arsenal we create…

The more we do, the more momentum builds.

And what seems small, over time, can compound into something BIG.

And that’s how we achieve our KPIs and become rockstars!

.

Mentors: Learn from the Experts

Rockstars are human too.

There could be a day when we’re clueless about how to crack a new territory.

However, one fine day, we meet someone who has already made the journey and succeeded, and offers to guide us so that we can tackle our project confidently and speed up while maneuvering tricky bumps along the way.

A wish come true?

Indeed! 😃

A mentor is like having our personal GPS.

Not only do they give us a heads-up to smooth the journey, but they also pull us up when we’re feeling stuck.

Or kick us when we’re lazy. Haha.

The best part? Mentors can be just anybody. It’s up to us.

It could be a sales pro we look up to, a key opinion leader or trusted influencer on social media, a top figure in the industry, a stakeholder in our company, or even a colleague who is ahead of us.

.

How Mentors Amplify Momentum

When mentorship and momentum come together, another “M” happens. Yes, magic! It turns us into an unstoppable force. Roarr!!

How?

Mentors make sure we are heading in the right direction, staying focused and on course.

More than that, Mentors also help us learn faster, grow stronger and faster and stay accountable. They might also open doors, introducing us to new opportunities and networks that we might not have access on our own.

With a mentor by our side, our momentum doesn’t just move us forward, it also propels us to new heights.

That’s how rockstars soar higher and rise faster!

.

How to Choose and Find the Right Mentor

Always start with self-reflection and knowing our goals. Which areas do we want to improve or need help with?

Next, consider some key criteria for a good mentor.

Look for someone with proven experience and success, ideally someone who has been in our sneakers, heels or both! 👟👠

Not only that, the mentor we choose must be a good listener and supportive, not a judgmental figure or, worse, a narcissist.

They must be reliable and trustworthy too.

More importantly, look for someone who is willing to invest time or energy in us. Remember, there are many mentors out there who genuinely seek to give back to society, so don’t hesitate to ask nicely.

Then, explore our network and reach out informally or formally to potential mentors with suitable communication channels and tones.

And most importantly, once we have a mentor, don’t forget to be a responsible and dedicated mentee.

Do our best and make them proud! 💪

.

Virtual Mentors?

Don’t have the guts to approach them directly? Don’t worry.

Mentorship can be virtual too.

Chances are, we already follow some key opinion leaders, trusted influencers, or top industry figures who often share valuable insights on YouTube, social media platforms like X, FB and Tik Tok, books, podcasts, or online communities, right?

For example, Dan Lok, Oprah Winfrey, Tim Denning, Neil Patel, Gary Vaynerchuk, Alex Hormozi and many other well-known gurus or influencers.

The insights they share through their channels are as valuable as having a personal mentor by our side.

However, it’s important to remember that these key figures may not be able to give much attention to each individual follower, so it requires a lot of independent thinking on our part.

That said, if direct mentorship feels too intense, and if we don’t mind thinking for ourselves rather than waiting for answers, virtual mentorship is a great alternative.

And instead of just one, why not leverage multiple virtual mentors to help us become more well-rounded and grow faster?

Ting! 💡😉

.

Don’t Ask Directly for Mentorship

Huh? Don’t be alarmed. Read on first.

Sheryl Sandberg, the former Facebook/Meta COO, in her book “Lean In”, advises against asking directly for mentorship.

The reason being, such a request, especially without compensation, can be burdensome for the receiving party, as they might feel that our growth is their responsibility.

Instead of asking someone to be our mentor, approach them with a specific problem and ask for their advice or insights.

When we show that we value their input, a mentor-mentee relationship may naturally evolve, without them feeling pressured.

Mrs. Sandberg also encourages “learning sideways,” which involves learning from peers and juniors who may offer fresh perspectives or specialized skills.

Instead of formalizing the relationship with labels like “mentor” or “mentee,” the focus should be on creating meaningful exchanges of knowledge and support.

So, what do we call them if not Mentors? Advisors? Knowledge partners? Free consultants? Haha.

I suppose, in some situations, the term doesn’t matter as long as it helps us build momentum and everyone gains something and wins too.

Why not, right?

Note: If you're curious what a mentor gains, it’s recognition, confidence, a sense of pride and fulfillment as they give back to their mentees and society, along with many other intrinsic values.

.

With Mentors, Rockstars Soars!

As we advance in our careers or lives, we may find ourselves seeking guidance in specific areas.

Finding the right mentors is key, but it’s important to remember that mentorship doesn’t always come in the traditional sense.

Sometimes, guidance comes from fellow knowledge partners, colleagues and virtual mentors.

What matters most is that they help us build and sustain momentum, as well as enable us to fast-track success by leveraging their expertise.

And by the way, rockstars are never selfish takers or manipulators.

We give, take and believe in a win-win relationship.

And we lift each other in our pursuit of success, even within a mentorship environment. InsyaAllah.

May we find the right mentors and become rockstars who soar in 2025! 🚀
