The Vocal Chronicle Vol. 1

First edition of the new magazine:

What a whirlwind! Starting a literary society is no easy feat, especially when it involves coordinating with peers from across the world in multiple time-zones! But, your admin at the VSS wouldn't have it any other way. We love publishing on Vocal and our passion is bringing people together who are like-minded and supportive. Just to be clear: The VSS is a devoted fan club. We are not affiliated with Vocal and do not answer questions on their behalf.

It Started With A What If:

What if there was a way for Vocal creators to earn a top-story feeling off-site without diluting the waters that give our creations life on our platform?

Which Lead To an Objective:

Objective: The VSS is dedicated to engagement and encouragement of writers along with showcasing content for readers interested in a multitude of stories. Our goal is to build a strong community of readers and writers who not only share together, but also support and provide quality feedback for each other.

We Laid Out a Plan for Spotlighting the Communities:

And went on to formulate an introduction article, which has since been updated and now features our professionally designed logo! Design created by Woya Designs.

Introduction:

Special thanks to Clyde E. Dawkins and his story, 'Divas of Doom: 10 Years Later' for being an example of a story that can be cross-referenced across multiple threads!

Time to Make Friends:

We started with engaging creators through the places we all already enjoy congregating, such as the Vocal Creators Lounge and Vocal Creators Support Group, of which, if you are wondering, all admin, mods, & experts of the VSS remain loyal participants. As a literary society that is primarily dedicated to showcasing peer-reviewed work, the VSS is not out to upstage anyone—including Vocal's top stories. Speaking of the showcase, here is some more information about the Fab 5.

The Fab Five:

What really sets the Vocal Social Society apart, however, is the weekly Fab Five Features. Throughout the week, Admin will be reading up a storm—both on our group and on Vocal—in search of unique voices. At the end of the week, we will highlight 5 fabulous stories and close the feeds for the entire weekend! During this time we ask that you provide feedback, reads and encouragement to these specific authors. And don’t worry! You don’t need to be perfect to be featured—that’s what a Top Story is for—no, on The Vocal Social Society we are about tiny wins.

Benefits of Being A Fab Five Nominee:

1. Your story will be featured all weekend long to increase reads and engagement.
2. Your story will be highlighted on our Instagram, and be forever linked to our Link In Bio Showcase.
3. Reasons 1 and 2 mean that you can turn around to your family and friends and bask in a little sunshine. Being a Fab Five proves you’ve earned some recognition from your peers, which you can then use to promote your work all over the web!

Besides the showcase, we also offer a Coaching Corner thread for direct review and more in-depth feedback than you might receive while read-swapping.

Additionally, we are considering creating some writing prompts to encourage us to write for the thrill of it. We decided to test something small, and so we requested our peers create a "Who I Am" post. The response from our members was astounding! There are so many excellent examples—too many to list—and all of them will be featured on our Instagram. This offer never expires: there is no deadline to create a Who I Am post. Just message the link to an admin once you're uploaded on Vocal.(see further down for more info)

Readers Matter:

But there was still more to do! We knew we wanted to bring readers and creators together to enjoy our work in a social setting as well as provide readers direct access to speak with the creators they enjoy and subscribe to on Vocal. At nearly 500 members and growing, our goal of allowing anyone to engage with their readers and their readers' friends—old and new—from across the globe is only getting started. We even made a list of why Vocal is for Everyone. Standard Vocal is free. To keep the feeds tidy, we generally close comments once that post is either: about a week old, or has since been replaced. Threads for daily posts are closed at the end of the day. Sometimes posts are deleted entirely.

Finally, Building A Foundation

We set out a motto:
