Now, before I begin, let me tell you…being a writer is easy, but it’s hard as well. Some of you may agree and others may not. Why do I say this? Because we all tend to get this thing called “writer's block,” and it fucking sucks, right?
Now, for me it sucks because, like some people on here, I write for money. That’s how I make a living. That’s how I pay my bills. Now I have a child too who is only five months, so of course he needs things like diapers, wipes, food, and clothing that he out grows every few months. Not easy, right mothers?
So that’s enough of me talking about my life. Let’s help YOU get started on how to fix your “writer's block” problem.
Step One:
I want you to grab a piece of paper and different colored markers or colored pencils. At the top of your paper, I want you to write “Writer’s Block Solution,” then I want you to make a diagram like the one in the picture above.
Step Two:
In the middle circle, I want you to write “Ideas” in any color you want. I use black for mine. For all lines and circles I used the color green.
Step Three:
I want you to make six or eight lines coming out of the “Ideas” circle with circles at the end. In those circles, I want you to write six or eight topics. For example, I have: Fighting, Dreams, Mystery, How To, Criminal, Book reviews, Drama, and Diary (If you didn’t notice… some of them I got because of Vocal. From their categories. Write those in a different color than step two). I used red.
Step Four:
Do the same thing as step three except make two lines coming from each bubble and put circles on the end of each. After that I want you to get more specific with each topic. So like details. For example: How To: I put “How to Make Scented Candles” and “Baby Room Decors” Or for Drama I put: “Drama with the boyfriend.” Or “Drama from my book” (Sample chapter from my book.) Use a different color from step two and step three. I used blue.
Step Five:
Hang up your piece of paper so you can see it when you go to write. I have mine hung up on my bulletin board on my desk where I write 6 days out of the week.
Now you can continue and make step six, seven, eight (these would be before step five so if you added three more steps… step five would become step eight… how many you want. How much you want to narrow it down is up to you. Now I stop at step five and hang up my paper. Each day I take a glance at that paper and usually an idea on one of my topics I have written down will pop into my mind right there and then or from earlier and I will be able to write it on that paper when I get a chance to.
Then when I go to write and I get that horrible thing called “Writer’s Block” I will be able to kick it in the butt because I already have my prepared topics in those cases.
If you are still having trouble picking topics… I will be posting topic suggestions and ideas in before March 26th 2018 so head on over to that writing piece and give it a look. See anything you like… WRITE IT DOWN!!! I have been in your position way too much and have finally learned after years how to control writer’s block!
Do not let writer’s block control your life! It’s YOUR story! Be the story!!
