5 Ways You Can Welcome Spring

with open arms

By Cathryn DennisonPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Finally, spring is here. Well...it’s close, anyway. Who knows what mother nature wants to do most days, but as the weather starts to warm up and the sun starts setting later and later, we seem to have the urge to do more.

We find ourselves having more energy and wanting to get done things we’ve been putting off in order to stay warm and comfortable, at least when there was snow outside.

So, here are five ways you can welcome the warm weather with the extra time and energy the early spring gives you.

1. Clean out the closet and/or dresser

With the warmer weather arriving, it’s time for you to start storing most of your winter wear and bringing a lot of your spring and summer wear out of storage. And, if you’ve gained/lost some winter weight, you may even want or need to get rid of some of your old clothes.

So, what better way to start fresh with 2021’s springtime than to make some space in your closet and storage area for the new year’s clothes.

Tip: Make sure to wash any clothes that you had stored away to ensure no bugs or pest droppings when you wear them next.

2. Break out the cleaning kit

It might be a bit of a cliche, but if you’re like me and don’t do a lot of cleaning in the wintertime, then it might be time to catch up, especially with health and sanitation being as important as ever now.

Try to take the time to clean the rooms and areas in the rooms that you normally wouldn’t. This can help deter bugs and spiders that are done hibernating from wanting to come into your home.

Tip: Use lemon or orange-scented cleaning products. Bugs cannot stand the smell, and they will also give your home a fresh, spring scent.

3. Crack open the windows

If you’re already doing your spring cleaning, then you might have already cracked the windows to get fresh air. If not, then you may want to open them once it’s warm enough to get some of that fresh spring air.

Not only is fresh air proven to be healthy for you, especially if you are cleaning with chemicals like bleach, but having air circulation can actually help to prevent germs from being spread.

Tip: If you’re trying to air out a stinky or stuffy room, place a lit scented candle near an open window; make sure it’s left somewhere where it will not be a fire hazard. The natural breeze from the window will make the room smell nicer much faster.

4. Breathe

Once you’ve caught up on most of your chores or tasks that you’ve been putting off for the last few months, take some time for yourself and relax.

Try taking a nap with the warm afternoon sun coming through the window. Take a few minutes to look at the stars without shivering. Enjoy some fresh fruit in the evening after some dinner.

It’s just as important to take a minute to appreciate all that you’ve done as it is to do those things. Even more so when the purpose of this list is to get you to stop and smell the warm, fresh air as the snow finishes melting and the spring showers will bring more flowers.

Tip: Make sure you have some allergy medications nearby. Your sinuses will be very thankful later.
