A Brief Respite
A reminder to take a break every now and then.

You who are weary, please sit by my fire.
I've warm food and drink, what do you desire?
The world has been cold and harsh to you friend;
and since you are here things must have grown dire.
I know you are here for what you have penned.
No need to talk, sit and take time to mend.
You wrote out to the world, no one wrote back;
Yet still you wrote out and that I commend.
Your head tells you that it's something you lack,
but it was just back luck not an attack.
That does not mean that it wasn't a blow.
Trust me I've seen these things make people crack.
I know with this, your conviction may slow,
but I hope you can still let your words flow.
And from all this I believe you will grow.
And from all this I believe you will grow.
Author's Note:
My last poem was about feeling hopeless when it comes to writing and content creation in general. It was about sharing something you worked hard on, something you love into the world and receiving nothing back. It was about how over time not seeing views or likes makes you feel worthless and not good enough especially in the age of influencers and internet celebrities.
From that poem I learned that a lot of really talented writers were in the same boat as me. And an unintended side effect of my last poem was being able to meet so many amazing people in this community and read their stories. From a post about feeling down, I was able to relate to others and be inspired by others. My goal still is to create a warm and welcoming space where people can come, take a break, and just hang out for a while.
While still addressing a similar issue, I wanted this poem to have a bit of a more uplifting message while still realizing the struggles. A message of overcoming hardship and the importance of taking breaks and not pushing yourself too hard.

Wow… this is just amazing. Feels like a message from life meant just for me, even though i know it has touched many more. Reminds me of a poem called Uphill by Christina Rosetti, one of my favorites ever. Thank you so much for sharing your gift ✨
Thoughtful poetry and essay on the matter.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Great poem, some of the most important ideas happen when we take a break.
This is inspiring and a reminder that it’s ok to slow down and take breaks sometimes. Burnout can be a killer, that’s for sure.
