A Pot Of Dirt

The Unnecessary Line

A Pot Of Dirt

I sit here with a pot of earth

Examining the souls true worth

From casket to a rolling hearse

Just inches from six feet of dirt

**

Diagnosed with restless legs

Hanging thoughts on wooden pegs

Gathering dust and doubt it seems

Choosing to stay lost in vivid dreams

**

I watch as flowers break the ground

Such struggle, without making sound

The sun, its petals soon will crown

This simple beauty so profound

**

Displayed sentiment, upon a grave

Its life a price seem too has paid

Adorns the earth where loved ones lay

Emotions share what once was saved

**

Flowers bloom and fade away

Ashes to ashes again, one day

To be the soil of potted clay

Growing the bud that heals the gray

Powerful poem. Evokes strong feelings and conjures up thoughts of the passage of time. Comparing the grave to a flower pot was pretty compelling and contemplative. Nicely done!

  • Beautiful, Kelli. (I hate the flowers on graves, must be Scotch blood in me, don't waste). Very visual. I'll be cremated so I don't waste the ground, LOL. I am wondering whether you meant pedal or petals? The sun, its pedals soon will crown

I was wondering how to do this challenge, so once again, I read yours. I still don't know how to do it but I figured it out last time, and I learned from the best. I am subscribing to you, Kelli, I need to reference my teacher.

What in a way is a nice way to say good-bye to someone. I probably read this wrong. Good job.
