A Real Historical Place
The oldest town in Great Britain

I walked around the municipality
with an open mind perspective
and uncovered another layer
hidden underneath
the everyday
humans’ look
when they lay their hands
on the gems surrounding them
that are reachable, noticeable, and have the right smell
of other folks
displaying the same desires from their domes
coated with the same ply
of stability
yet they don’t realise that there’s another ground
which helps me to think more about
whereabouts of this world
having many different levels
of knowledge
and inhabitants with so many roots
invading this historic site
from Romans to Normans, Brythonic-Celtic to French, and Flemish Protestant refugees
building pastel-coloured houses, castles, and squares
parrot-like shot from a crossbow
demonstrated on the ancient walls
encompassing the entire town
east to west and north to south
resembling military troops
protecting the city and the river
against unwanted urgent usurpation
of English law
usually having too many barons
fighting their war
with the support
of many kings
mostly Henrys, barely adults, but still
proving that the heritage has endured for centuries
disclosing more of a newly discovered history
permeating the ages
with chariot and horse races
in Britain’s only Roman Circus
unrivalled with the zoo menagerie
on the Lion Walk
in the ruins of the greatest history
of St. Botolph’s Priory
scaring
with real red Roman bricks
on intricate pillars and rounded archways
unusual, unpredictable, undiscovered fully yet

I'm envious of the history all around you. Your poem gives me a first hand and personal glimpse of a harsher yet simpler time.
