A World That Died

The wind is sharp, it cuts like glass,

No warmth remains, the fires pass.

The sky hangs low, a heavy slate,

No stars remain to light my fate.

I walk alone through frozen ground,

No echo answers, not a sound.

Each breath I take turns into stone,

This world is cold, and I’m alone.

The trees are dead, their branches bare,

They do not move, they do not care.

Their roots are trapped in solid white,

No memory left, no will to fight.

My hands are numb, my shadow thinned,

The storm has crept beneath my skin.

No shelter comes, no doorway glows,

Just ice and night and deeper snows.

The past is lost, I can’t go back,

The road ahead is smeared and black.

Each step I take feels worse than last,

The dark is slow, is this my last?

I whisper names, they drift like smoke,

No one hears the words I spoke.

They vanish in the frozen air,

As if those names were never there.

The silence grows, it eats my will,

Each moment now is standing still.

I thought I knew what sorrow meant,

now I see it I can’t breath no air vent.

My ending comes, no bell, no sign,

The night is long, and none is mine.

The world has turned its face from me,

And left me here, too blind to see.

So I wait to breath my last

The world and life after me is past

I close my eyes it’s now time. ready to die

I hope there’s an heaven, good bye good bye.

It's again during theh mountain climbing setting? I felt hypothermia in a mountain, and was about to die, so related.

“Each breath I take turns into stone” hit me hard. It really captures how heavy and numb pain can feel. Thank you for expressing something so deep and raw through your words.❤

Good job on a poem that shows the love for a planet and all who inhabit.
