Alpine

The sense of a perfect evening.

Silent-stacked-up logs waiting snug and neatly split &

Snap-and-crackle matches sparking down into the pit.

Cheerful-yellow flames dancing out a timeless tune &

Hazy-charcoal smoke floating up towards the moon.

Loving-quiet voices telling stories we all know &

Gleeful-tired giggles flying higher than a crow.

Midnight-chilly breezes nipping gently at my nose &

Ember-glowing heat bidding sleepy eyes to close.

Sweet-and-sticky sugar spreading white on little palms &

Mossy-dampened earth lying still and soft and calm.

Inky-blackened shadows swirling closer with a sigh &

Breathless-brilliant stars scattered all across the sky.

Tired-heavy heads drooping sideways in their chairs &

Child-tiny sleepers tucked in blankets unawares.

Feather-quiet owls soaring up in joyful flight &

Secret-smile mum & father whispering good night.
