ঘরে ছিলাম

চোখ খুলে দেখি বাড়ি নেই;

ঠায় দাঁড়িয়ে ঘাসের ওপর

একটা পাতা ছুঁয়ে গেছে ঠোঁট,

কর্কশ পাতা; বাহিরে তখন মোলায়েম বাতাস।

আবেগ আসে পড়িমরি করে

বন্ধ হয়ে যায় চোখ

কী আশ্চর্য, ফিরে আসি ঘরে

চিরায়ত সে ইটের গাঁথুনি, আরোপিত বায়ু

ঘুম ঘোরে সব স্বপ্ন দেখে

জাগরণে মোহভঙ্গ, অথচ এদিকে

স্বপ্নে ফিরে দুঃস্বপ্ন, জাগরণটাই কেবল স্বপ্নসম।

ঘুমাই কেন, ঘুমাব কেন

জাগরণই হোক চির-আকাঙ্ক্ষিত।

When Dreams Blur Reality

I was at home,

Opened my eyes to find the house gone;

Standing still on grass,

A leaf brushed my lips,

A rough leaf; outside, a gentle breeze.

Emotion surges, overwhelming,

Eyes close shut.

How wondrous, I return home—

To familiar brickwork, imposed air.

In sleep’s haze, all dreams unfold,

In waking, disillusionment strikes. Yet,

Dreams turn to nightmares,

While waking alone feels dreamlike.

Why sleep, why should I sleep?

Let wakefulness be my eternal desire.
