Candles In The Snow

Lighting my way in Lapland

Candles In The Snow by Andy Catchpole on Flickr

When we were visiting Santa in Lapland with my young son, what I remembered were the large candles/oil lamps which lined the pavements in the small village of Saariselka. Very cold but very beautiful...

Candles In The Snow

A small canister,

Recycled metal, oil filled.

Burnt a guiding flame.

or

A small canister,

In a pool of melted snow,

Burns to guide my way.

I'm wondering if putting two on the same entry did you a disservice. They're both beautiful, and there's no limit to challenge entries, so I would make each one a separate entry in the future out of respect for the judges (whom I tortured in the villanelle challenge, as payback). The first one is quite sublime and would be much stronger as a standalone.
