Corazón

By hearing, by seeing, in her heart has she known

"That which they taught us," by Judah LoVato

You placed a hand on your chest, and you said "Corazón"

Then taught me what meaning there can be in a word

And with that simple wisdom I've lived and I've grown

———

"It means heart," you said, "but it’s not one of stone;

It's one that gains strength like the wings of a bird,"

You placed a hand on your chest, and you said "Corazón"

———

"When leaving the nest the young bird has not flown

But falls only with guidance of all that she’s heard,"

And with that simple wisdom I've lived and I've grown

———

"When fearing and falling she must feel alone

But deep in her heart she must know it’s absurd-"

You placed a hand on your chest, and you said "Corazón"

———

"By hearing, by seeing, in her heart has she known

The truth of her nature: that her flight is assured!"

And with that simple wisdom I've lived and I've grown

———

“Like the bird, then, we know in our hearts we’ve been shown

That the wind for our flight is the Light of That Word .”

You placed a hand on your chest, and you said “Corazón”

And with that simple wisdom I’ve lived and I’ve grown.

My collection of sometimes decent writing

Which I've left "there" for seekers to seek

Though I lack the grandeur of that Pirate King

Perhaps these pebbles can be a light

In this life, this laughing tale

What a beautiful villanelle that captures many aspects of the heart in English and Spanish.
