Divine Lightning

The Soular Gamble

We walk a winding path through life

As back and forth and to and fro

The pendulum swings day and night

And who can say what it may know

x

When suddenly out of the blue

A bolt is born of love and strife

A surge which strikes one's heart so true

It shocks awake one's inner light

x

A catalytic spark, it leaps

From heart to mind to kindred kind

Such confidence it meekly keeps

The mask that binds starts to unwind

x

It questions lock and key, you see

And seeks to find the secret lore

It knocks and knocks and knocks softly

And peeks behind the iron door

x

To stare into the mirrors set

Within the face that hides away

And there it sees a risky bet:

To face oneself and yet to stay

x

For who can stand to take the hand

That holds our heart within its grip

Its platitudes are surely planned

For it could just as surely rip

x

Our soul out of our open mouth

With gratitude for easy reach

How easily things could go south

With just a tug, a thug could teach

x

A lesson one never forgets

That what goes up yet must come down

The shadow always pays its debts

At your behest he'll wrest the crown

x

From happiness and wholesome joy

He won't begrudge your spotless gown

As long as you've been proper coy

And paid for smiling with a frown

x

For love, you see, takes give and take

For every girl and every boy

The soul of life is what's at stake

To win this boon, his clever ploy

x

Is to offer the greatest prize

To give freely that it may cloy

And spoil all that which might arise

Their love, to him, is but a toy

x

Through which to ply his many lies

With which to push and pull on them

Given his way, it quickly dies

From toxic plants within the stem

x

Yet equally this poison touch

Might be transmuted into gold

If each of them can love too much

That they are unable to fold

x

If they can stay despite the cold

And tend the flame that hungers yet

If we believe the lies we told

Then we may be the ones who fret

x

When brought to light our sins do earn

Compassion and honest regret

For such raw truth deeply we yearn

But only hurt and anger set

x

Us up to learn the lesson well

Our other half is thus well met

The tallest trees no-one can fell

So let us love and so beget

x

A garden full of life in bloom

And let us court thereby our doom

For flowers don't fear to be burnt

For long ago, to love, they learnt

x

The heat which might one day destroy

The moisture that they need to live

For this same heat they redeploy

Within themselves that they may give

x

The sweetest scents to call the bees

To make jealous all of the trees

To ride the wave aboard the breeze

For love and only love so frees

x

Us up to drink the sun so bright

To fly away from dread and fright

To borrow Earth's unbeaten might

To transcend touch and sound and sight

x

And risky though this life may be

It's worth the risk to fall in love

To live a little is the plea

And come what may, the push and shove

x

This push and pull need not control

Need not compel the whole world-soul

Though clinging may well seem the way

It's too short sighted for the day

x

On which these two were to be wed

This skin of theirs they'll surely shed

And then they'll know which way to go

Though come what may, away will flow

x

All that which holds them back from truth

And everything inspiring shame

These waters are eternal youth

Their shores are the immortal frame

x

For life and love are but a ride

Upon the coaster of the coast

If we can give up fear and pride

We too can taste the holy ghost

x

This storm which we have amplified

It charges up the sacred guide

And if we can yet cease to hide

We'll live our lives electrified

x

So don't give up, and don't give in

Do not submit to heaven's sin

Though strife yet rules, deep love yet pools

And busy hands make angel's tools
