Dreaming of Sunlight

Haunted by shadows

I watch the sun move ‘cross the sky

knowing it will set.

All I need to do is try,

but I haven’t done that yet.

The hope is everpresent;

the longing never fades.

I watch its effervescence

floating past me every day.

I feel my feet take action;

I hope it’s not too late.

My hope hit with subtraction

when I realize my true fate.

The rays wave a shy farewell pointed in my direction,

their dream of my early rise, their day’s last confession.
