Duplicitous Companion

a poem inspired by life's mysteries

By Solomon WalkerPublished about a year ago 1 min read
the mirage by Solomon

In twilight's embrace, where shadows twine,

Beneath a luminescent, starry design,

An apparition lurks, enigmatic and rare,

A spectral companion with a deceptive glare.

In the realm of dreams and whispered lore,

Where moonbeams dance on a silent floor,

A phantom emerges, elusive as a breeze,

A duplicitous companion, eager to appease.

Through moonlit meadows and verdant trails,

It silently follows, leaving no traces or trails,

A guide in the darkness, its intentions unbeknown,

With a spectral presence forever shrouded in stone.

It floats on ethereal wings, a faithful sprite,

Camouflaged by night, concealed from sight,

Whispering secrets in winds that sway,

A wraith-like figure that never fades away.

Sometimes a whisper, sometimes a sigh,

Its voice, a haunting lullaby,

It shares lonely journeys through the night,

A confidant for those who've lost their light.

Yet, beneath its guise, a twinge of deceit,

For the duplicitous companion likes to entreat,

Tales spun from illusions, an enchanting mirage,

Leaving wanderers bewildered, their senses in barrage.

The spectral partner, like a nightshade's bloom,

Can lead astray, weaving paths of gloom,

With silver illusions and treacherous plea,

It tests the traveller's resolve in its playful spree.

Beware, oh wanderer, in the shadows' embrace,

The duplicitous companion, with its curious grace,

For within its shadows lies a cryptic game,

A dance of illusions, illusions that bear no shame.

In the depths of truth, you must seek resolve,

To untangle the webs its illusions involve,

Yet, appreciate the beauty of this spectral guise,

For in darkness it whispers, in starlight it lies.

So, when you voyage through moonlit nights,

In the countryside's serenity, where darkness invites,

Know that within the shadows, a companion will be,

The duplicitous guide, forever part of this journey.

Yet, remember its nature, deceit woven deep,

Unravel the illusions before you sleep,

And with the wisdom earned from wandering afar,

Embrace the mysteries of the duplicitous avatar.
