A Poem

The echoes sometimes come,

when sleep won’t claim the eyes,

at 1 AM when thoughts

are drifting somewhere far.

Songs ringing through his ear,

sweat gleaming on his brow,

an ache, wishing they’d not

ever been torn apart.

But what he may not know

is that inside her soul

remains a spot where once

two lovers lay in song.

Where laughter rings out still,

phantom handhold feels real,

and smiling plays on—

just like a looping reel.

But echoes far away

cry for them both to stay,

to undo from the start

what tore them both apart.

The only One who knows

how deep it goes is God.

The prayers they once prayed

still echo in the dark.

Name whispered in her dreams,

Hers whispered in his heart—

but it’s far, far too late

to return to the start.

Now all they have is prayer,

the place where only God

knows what has happened since,

what happened from the start.

Still, echoes far away

cry for them both to stay,

unmoving from the place

where once through song they lay.

Only in Heaven’s arms

can they again unite.

They pray now to forget—

their minds won’t drift so far.

This is brilliant. I'm not religious, but you didn't lose me. I still felt it all. A well-deserved top story.

This feels like a song itself—haunting, and full of that ache that lingers long after love fades.💖
