Eulogy for a Broken Pencil
A poem about the best friend of art
Once sharp and proud, a writing tool,
A faithful friend, to make my thoughts rule.
A graphite heart, encased in wood,
A simple thing, yet oh so good.
With lead so fine, you wrote my words,
A storyteller, with letters blurred.
You etched my thoughts, my hopes, my dreams,
A pencil, a companion it seems.
But now you lay, in two pieces small,
Your graphite gone, your form enthrall.
No longer able to write or draw,
A eulogy, for you I saw.
But fear not, dear pencil, you'll not be missed,
For in my heart, your memory persists.
And though you're gone, your legacy lives on,
In every word, that you have drawn.
Rest in peace, dear pencil, rest in peace
Your duty done, your story cease.
