Everyone Hurts You

Some by accident. Some by design. Some because you chose them.

Smiles are borrowed

Pain is owned

Promises whispered

Then overthrown

***

Hands feel warm

Hearts stay cold

Truth gets bent

And lies get sold

***

Hope knocks softly

No one hears

Faith grows weak

From wasted years

***

Trust breaks easy

Love runs slow

Everyone hurts you

Some you chose

***

Dreams feel close

Then slip away

Night says more

Than words by day

***

Scars stay quiet

But they know

Where you’ve been

And what you owe

***

Still you stand

Though worn and bruised

Learning life

Is what you lose

As I can’t reply directly right now, this is my response to the comments on I lost my Voice in 30 hours

Novel Allen, you can’t understand how much this gives me confidence that things will be recovered. Your words really steadied me when I needed it most. Thank you for the reassurance, the honesty, and the reminder to keep moving forward. I truly appreciate it.

I’m really impressed by the pacing on this poem. Short but hard hitting lines, using each word to great effect. A melancholy, jaded sort of sentiment but sometimes that resonates quite loud for me.
