Fading Footprints

The Illusion of Forever

We walked those halls, side by side,

With promises we’d never hide.

Shared secrets, smiles, and dreams so bright,

We thought our bond was full of light.

But as the days slipped into years,

The laughter hid unspoken fears.

We thought we’d stay, come what may,

But time has a way of pulling away.

The halls grew quiet, paths diverged,

And what once felt so strong, emerged

As something fleeting, something small—

A friendship built on high school walls.

The promises were sweet, but thin,

Fading like the notes we’d written in

The margins of a passing class,

Now ghosts of moments gone too fast.

And when the caps were thrown in air,

I realized, none were truly there.

The ones I thought would never leave

Had moved on, without a weave.

The ties were frayed, the smiles grew dim,

The friends I had, no longer him.

For what was meant to last forever,

Was just a chapter, not together.

And in the end, I start to see,

Not all who walk with you are free—

Some come and go, just for a while,

Leaving footprints that fade with time.

Friendship
