Fairy tales are a beautiful, l unrealistic expectation of the real world.

From a small age, we've read the books and watched movies about fairy tales,

Fantasized about growing up to have our own fairytale.

Yes, we understand that these fairytales are just stories, not real.

But to what degree?

In the stories, you have three types of people,

The Ugly Villain who tries to trick their way to the top generally doesn't work out in the end.

The Damsel indistress, who always gets tricked, every single time,

But always gets saved by the story's version of "Prince Charming".

And you can't forget about Prince Charming, who always manages to save the girl.

At the end of each story, the damsel and Prince Charming get married and live happily ever after.

What in the bullshit is that?

What are the lessons even learned from these stories?

Don't worry if some shit person is out to get you, a big, strong man will come in, swoop you off your feet, marry you, and you never have to worry about shitty people again.

Yes, these are just fairy tales, but in some way, shape or form, these are the expectations in real life.

How do fairy tales have any expectations in real life?

The Ugly Villain in the story is society, the damsel in distress is the woman, and Prince Charming is the man.

The relevance is that society is consistently holding women up to unrealistic expectations of beauty standards, being the perfect housewife, caretaker of the household,

And men come in to save you from the pressures of society and keep you in the kitchen.

Except now women always need to bring home a pay cheque on top of all these other things, while men get to stay the same.

My little secret is that you don't need saving and you don't need Prince Charming.

Especially since you are your own Prince Charming.
