Following a Fool
A Poem by Lena.
❤
You lied, but I knew it.
You swore, but it meant nothing.
Your words, your promises,
Nothing more than hollow whispers.
I followed you, anyway.
Though, I knew the truth.
I knew it was a waste.
Still, I hoped, and I jumped,
Anxiously waiting for you to come through.
I should’ve known better,
But I did, didn’t I?
I followed after you with eyes wide open,
And you led like the blind man you are.
Who’s the bigger fool?
It’s painfully, woefully clear.
Your lies I saw through.
Though, you did not, did you?
You believed every word.
While I knew better and still leaped,
You knew not better or truer.
So, you led me happily,
Into a trap laid out for us both.
Who’s the bigger fool?
I know. It’s me, only me.
You lied, but I knew it.
You swore, but it meant nothing.
Your words, your promises,
Nothing more than hollow whispers.
I followed you, anyway.
Though, I knew the truth.
I knew it was a waste.
Still, I hoped, and I jumped.
Perhaps, it was me all along.
Who was in the wrong.
For, you were the liar,
But I knew better,
And I followed anyway.
