Hard Work

this thing called Grief

I know you really didn't want to leave

and God knows we wanted to keep you...

Now we labor in this job, "to grieve."

Tears fell, now I'm numb; who knew?

When you left, part of me went, too.

The residue of "me" is just only "here."

I still wake and eat and smile on cue...

Yet colors dull, sounds mute, nothing clear.

Trouble is you were so very much "alive"...

Until you "weren't" and that is such a blow.

Each breath you took, taught us how to strive

Lord give us strength to those left below.

Very emotive, you captured the impact of grief well. How wonderful to have a Saviour who knew grief, cares & loves us. God comforts those who grieve. If this is still raw, may you feel his loving arms wrapped around you.💖

I am sorry, Shirley, I think anyone who's lost someone they love will recognize that feeling of waking up and smiling on cue while everything's just... duller. Like the world lost its color when they left.

  • Sending you lots of love and hugs 🥺❤️

I'm so sorry, Shirley! 💙 Losing a child has to be the worst. And recently a friend told me she blamed herself, even when it was clear to me it wasn't her fault. I thought It was probably to make sense of what happened. You and your family are in my prayers!❤️💙❤️Take good care of you as he would want that.❤️

Thank you for sharing this. It's not easy "letting go" and while some find their way back a little easier than others, there are the others who get a bit lost along the way.
