How long ‘till God grants our loudest wish?
The one trumpeted by nations and neighbors
Drowning out screams for world peace
Like the cries of kittens in a river
-
How long ‘till God listens to what we really want?
The desire spilled out on every patch of dirt we covet
Using Cain’s rock on every man that could be our brother
Killing over the stories we tell ourselves
-
How long ‘till God has heard enough?
This wish so endemic, it’s written in our DNA
An expression that pours out our mouths
Sickly sweet bile from a rotten peach
-
How long will He have to hear it?
From all sides, even the good ones,
We hear the mighty refrain:
Lord God, smite my enemies
-
How long until His answer is
-
Let there be darkness

Sometimes he answers us, but we just don't like the answer.
That definitely is a good question. Hmmm. Loved your poem!
How long indeed. I'd have had enough by now...
Quite a grand scale to this: nations, sides, enemies. And quite the thought provoking question in the final line
