When life ends, it will not be with a bang.

Volcanoes will not spew lava ‘cross the lands;

Glass will not dot the Sahara sands.

A supernova will not light the night skies;

Though, the oceans will only continue to rise.

The ozone will once again deplete,

Contrasting the CO2 which traps the heat.

Fires will spread as they have in the past,

And the seas will fill with acid at last.

But a meteor will not strike us down,

To show we are not the strongest around.

Life will end, as it began,

The slow start to the eradication of man.

This event is already underway.

I see it in the flowers that have turned gray,

In the calls of birds that whittle away.

I see it in the start of every day,

When humanity treats Earth as its personal ashtray.
