If It Were in My Power…
If it were in my power, I’d build a city, a magical tower.

If It Were in My Power…
If it were in my power,
I’d build a city, a magical tower.
Where the flutter of doves in their gentle flight
Would turn life’s song into endless delight.
Where jingling breaths, like anklets, sing,
And senses soak in the hues of spring.
Where the moon would never fade or wane,
And moonlight’s fabric would gently sustain
The barren souls of a thirsty earth,
Clothing their hearts with endless worth.
A place where certainty reigns supreme,
And doubt vanishes like a fleeting dream.
Where lips would speak without any fear,
No king’s shadow hovering near.
Where veins hold no trace of dread,
And terror’s whisper would long be dead.
No place for fear or shadows of doubt,
Where truth meets truth, leaving lies out.
Where fireflies guide the night’s dark trail,
And jealousy to seasons would fail.
Where heights and depths hold no disdain,
And envy finds no home to gain.
A city where dreams light up the eyes,
And darkness flees where joy resides.
No night would pass in ignorant haze,
No soul would wander in thoughtless daze.
No tainted dawn, no fractured sky,
No whirlpools in oceans to terrify.
No trees or branches, lost and bare,
Would feel like strangers, unaware.
And birds that chirp through sunny days
Would fear no rain’s destructive gaze.
If it were in my hands to decree,
A city like this I’d create for thee.
Where love untouched by worldly sorrow
Would promise a brighter, hope-filled tomorrow.
No binds of life to hold us tight,
No bitter truths to dim our sight.
The harshness of this vast, cruel sphere
Would never touch a single tear.
Where my breath's freshness would forever reside,
In the lotus of your love, my guide.
Your beauty would dance in every line,
The essence of my verse divine.
One fleeting moment would hold an age,
A timeless story on life's grand stage.
No dirges of grief would cross my throat,
No sorrow's hymn would find its note.
No innocent blood upon the ground
Would leave its mark, no stain profound.
This city I’d build, this city so true,
Where the sun meets shade, embracing the new.

Enhanced Elucidation
Stanza 1:
If it were in my power,
I’d build a city, a magical tower.
Where the flutter of doves in their gentle flight
Would turn life’s song into endless delight.
Where jingling breaths, like anklets, sing,
And senses soak in the hues of spring.
Where the moon would never fade or wane,
And moonlight’s fabric would gently sustain
The barren souls of a thirsty earth,
Clothing their hearts with endless worth.
Explanation: The poet imagines creating a perfect city, where peace and beauty reign. Doves flying represent peace and harmony, and their flight would turn every moment of life into a joyful melody. The mention of "jingling breaths" refers to the idea of life’s rhythms being so harmonious that they feel like music. In this city, nature thrives: the moon is ever bright, and the earth, which is usually barren, would be nourished, giving people a sense of hope and fulfillment.
Stanza 2:
A place where certainty reigns supreme,
And doubt vanishes like a fleeting dream.
Where lips would speak without any fear,
No king’s shadow hovering near.
Where veins hold no trace of dread,
And terror’s whisper would long be dead.
Explanation: This stanza talks about a society where certainty and truth dominate. In this ideal city, doubt has no place, and everyone speaks freely without fear of oppression or authority. People are no longer burdened by fear or anxiety, and terror, which often controls lives in the real world, no longer has a grip on them.
Stanza 3:
No place for fear or shadows of doubt,
Where truth meets truth, leaving lies out.
Where fireflies guide the night’s dark trail,
And jealousy to seasons would fail.
Where heights and depths hold no disdain,
And envy finds no home to gain.
Explanation: In this perfect city, fear and doubt are completely absent. Truth is unchallenged and pure, as lies have no place. Fireflies, which symbolize light in the darkness, show the way in this world. Jealousy and envy, negative emotions that often cause division, are absent here, and the people live in harmony with no hatred or competition.
Stanza 4:
A city where dreams light up the eyes,
And darkness flees where joy resides.
No night would pass in ignorant haze,
No soul would wander in thoughtless daze.
No tainted dawn, no fractured sky,
No whirlpools in oceans to terrify.
Explanation: In this city, dreams are so vivid and bright that they bring clarity and vision to people’s lives. Darkness, which represents ignorance or despair, vanishes where joy is present. Every day is full of awareness, and there are no struggles or confusion. Even the dawn, typically a time of reflection, is pure and untouched, symbolizing hope and clarity for all.
Stanza 5:
No trees or branches, lost and bare,
Would feel like strangers, unaware.
And birds that chirp through sunny days
Would fear no rain’s destructive gaze.
Explanation: This stanza continues the idea of harmony in nature. Even the trees and branches, which may appear dead or neglected in the real world, would feel connected and alive in this city. Birds, which symbolize freedom and joy, would not fear the coming of rain, which usually represents hardship or struggle. Everything in this city thrives in unity and peace.
Stanza 6:
If it were in my hands to decree,
A city like this I’d create for thee.
Where love untouched by worldly sorrow
Would promise a brighter, hope-filled tomorrow.
No binds of life to hold us tight,
No bitter truths to dim our sight.
The harshness of this vast, cruel sphere
Would never touch a single tear.
Explanation: Here, the poet expresses a desire to create this ideal city for someone special. In this city, love remains pure, unaffected by the sorrows of the world, and it promises a hopeful future. People are free from life’s constraints and are no longer affected by harsh truths or bitter realities. The cruelty and difficulties of the real world do not touch anyone in this utopian place, and there is no room for sorrow.
Stanza 7:
Where my breath's freshness would forever reside,
In the lotus of your love, my guide.
Your beauty would dance in every line,
The essence of my verse divine.
One fleeting moment would hold an age,
A timeless story on life's grand stage.
Explanation: This stanza expresses the poet’s deep connection with their love. Their breath would carry the freshness of love, and their beloved's beauty would inspire every line of the poet's verse, making their poetry immortal. Each moment spent in this love would feel like an eternal, timeless story—a perfect harmony between the poet's thoughts and the object of their affection.
Stanza 8:
No dirges of grief would cross my throat,
No sorrow's hymn would find its note.
No innocent blood upon the ground
Would leave its mark, no stain profound.
This city I’d build, this city so true,
Where the sun meets shade, embracing the new.
Explanation: In this final stanza, the poet imagines a place where grief and sorrow no longer exist. There are no funeral songs or mourning, no bloodshed, and no suffering. This perfect city is true to its ideals, where even contrasting forces—sun and shade—are embraced as part of the natural cycle. It symbolizes balance and the acceptance of both joy and sorrow, each playing its part in life.
