Lamb Feast for Birthday

Why are we so poor in compassion?

It was his daughter’s birthday,

he had invited guests,

for a feast of delicious foods.

Among the many dishes,

meat would be the highlight,

after all,

it was his little girl’s celebration.

He went to the ranch,

picked a lamb

that seemed ideal.

It was butchered, cooked with spices,

served proudly to the guests.

Imagine, your child’s birthday,

you want her laughter,

seeking her longevity.

And another mother

loses her baby for that.

What is the meaning

of going to shrines every week

if we can be so numb?

Food chain is the truth

of this living world,

yet why do we forget

that every mother,

human or animal,

aches for her child?

Why compassion is ignores,

while it clearly matters most.
