Much Rather Live in Space

Any extraterrestrials needed?

By Chelsei St PaulPublished 4 years ago 2 min read

I hate the fact I hate this poem, as I reflect upon my place ,

I hate the fact I hate this world, I’d much rather live in space.

There’d be no social media, no double-taps or need to subscribe,

As in this world we have no morals, just phones and followers to survive.

Therapy and mental health have become just a trend,

When I’m sorry I’m feeling depressed’, and get told ‘maybe see your friends’.

Why should I sit around with people who just take photos of our food,

And when it comes to conversation never a serious ‘how are you?’

I hate the fact I hate this poem, as I reflect upon my place ,

I hate the fact I hate this world, I’d much rather live in space.

Where there’d be no government to control just how we live,

No more entitled, privileged twits forcing us to have kids.

Why on Earth should we have to go back to fighting for our rights?

For praying that the police don’t stop us too late at night.

We’ve already seen these battles time and time before,

Between BLM, the Suffragettes and a countless many more.

Its painfully obvious that those in charge simply do not care,

In the likely words of Emily Davidson, “seems we’re having a ‘mare.”

I hate the fact I hate this poem, as I reflect upon my place ,

I hate the fact I hate this world, I’d much rather live in space.

For I worry about someday bringing children into this Earth,

Where they’ll be forced to learn that their views will never work.

Of course I’m sure they’ll fight for the livelihoods they want,

But I’m fairly certain they’ll just get the same control in a different font.

However, I have to stay, I have no choice, I cannot leave,

All I can do is fight, so this depression dies with me.

I refuse to let my future generations feel this way,

And if they do they ought to know there are ways it can be okay.

Surround yourselves with love, when everyone’s filled with hate,

And even on the days you are too, don’t be mad at your mental state.

For you’ll have to fight, and you may want to give up too,

But hey I have a secret, you’re stronger than the fools.
