My Mind is a Camera

A Zen Poem by Justin Day

My mind is a camera.

Pointed at my head.

Following me everywhere -

Recording all I’ve said.

*

The camera was so close,

In the early days,

I could hardly see a thing

When it got in my way.

*

Then I got a little older

And that presence - it pulled back,

Catching family and friends -

From a corner in the back.

*

The further that it drifted,

The more that I could see

I saw the beauty of the world

And I saw less of “me.”

*

I can hardly see the camera lens,

It’s so far out there, now

And when I turn it on

I’m lost amongst the crowd.

*

Yes, my mind is a camera

Slowly drifting far away

Till I finally let it go

On my last and final day.

I love the story of seeing the bigger picture as you grow in years
