Afterword:

I could have easily chose the word ‘flowers’ instead of ‘fossils,’ but I was inspired by fossils, particularly ammonites and the nautilus. In my research I discovered that while most species of nautilus are extinct, there are some surviving species, considering the nautilus a ‘living fossil.’
