Poplar trees

Of winter and spring

Poplar trees — evergreens, and sunbeams in the woods

Sing us a chorus, strike us a tune that my heart yearns to follow.

Tree arms sway and crack, bony, skinny, creaky limbs

Animals hide and learn, living within the hollow.

Spring’s attack breaks winter’s curse, reveals the hidden flower

But don’t look now, cause winter is coming for reversal.

Shadows scream for cover, light fills the silver lining

Day and night swing in motion, a law that’s universal.

Crickets chirp, wind blows breezily, never a doubt —

That grass grows greener than can you remember.

Rain and fog comes and leaves, clouds like to blow

Flora and fauna flourishes, cared for with eyes of ember.

The facade of nature’s borders can’t be deciphered

Not when its villain lurks closely and nearby.

The cold of his heart, and ferocity of breathe

It squirms and slithers, wishing for all to die.

Come on hero! Move in quick, strike at the heel

Do it now, O, do it now, Do what it is that you know.

Move the mountains, smash the hills!

Defeat this mortal foe…
