A Poem About the Uncommon

Living centurions.

4 leaf clovers.

Lifetime love.

Fresh leftovers.

Shooting stars.

Volcanic eruptions.

Solar eclipses.

No interruptions.

UFOs. Ghosts. Tidal waves.

Someone you can't offend.

Man walking on the moon.

Finding the rainbow's end.

Honest politicians.

Lawyers who don't lie.

Winning ticket for the lottery.

Peregrine falcons that can't fly.

Prosperity from beckoning cats.

A wishbone wish come true.

A rabbit’s foot that brings good luck.

Protection from an iron horseshoe.

Needle in the haystack.

Eye doctor without an eye.

Babies sleeping through the night.

A cockroach that will die.

An iceburg that’s not melting.

An ocean with no trash.

Getting struck by lightning.

Stumbling on loads of cash.

Thunder in a snowstorm.

More wine inside the bottle.

Fossils in your backyard.

A car driving without a throttle.

Peace throughout the earth.

Queen bee living on her own.

A pine tree with no needles.

Non-creepy garden gnomes.

Nightingale that doesn’t sing.

Sunflowers with no petals.

Musical staff without a note.

Tin man not made of metal.

Rose without a thorn.

Snowflake that’s not unique.

Fortune cookie that tastes good.

A mediocre mountain peak.

A flame without a moth.

Ideas without a brain.

A clown that isn’t scary.

A horse without a mane.

A rooster that isn’t cocky.

Grave without a stone.

Explorer without a map.

A dog without a bone.

A kettle that doesn't whistle.

A carnival that’s not fun.

Keys in the place they should be.

The laundry being done.

Finding a lucky penny.

A unicycle without a wheel.

A toddler that will eat his dinner and

wont complain about the meal.

No wrinkles when you're old.

Chopping onions without a cry.

Beating the house in Vegas.

Fried chicken without a thigh.

Fresh breath after eating garlic.

An ant without a hill.

Leaving the last bite of ice cream.

A duck without a bill.

Rare as they may be,

time to time they do appear-

Just sleep with one eye open

and keep your camera near.

About the Creator

Kristen Balyeat

Words fly to me on the wind, bump into me as I'm strolling the city, splash me in the face while I rest by the river, and shake me awake in the middle of the night—I’m humbly one of the vessels they use to come to life.

Also, i love you:)

This was awesome!!! It’s like a fun and playful adult Dr.Seuss. The ending with the camera is the best, one could only wish to have a camera if seeing any of these things!

Aww, I love this. I most enjoyed the unpredictability. Queen bee living on her own is unique, and non-creepy garden gnomes made me chuckle - and rare they are indeed!! As a photographer, I know the curse of not having the camera near!!! 😂
