Remeniscent
Longing for Quieter Times
The moon was still low in the sky
But would soon outshine the stars
We sat, silent, you and I
On that old porch swing of ours.
*
Words weren't needed or desired
On those sultry Southern nights.
Life was simple and wood-fired,
Far from noise and city lights.
*
Conversation seemed superfluous.
Oh, we knew each other well.
Just to be there was enough for us
He stood before the gates of hell.
*
The world has turned and we've grown older
Time's been kind in many ways,
Though the nights seem somewhat colder
And I miss those quiet days
*
And the nights we shared together
With a sea of stars above,
In that warmer, Southern weather,
Silent, sated, lost in love.

Nicely done. Very lovely. I saw that line and knew which challenge it was for Dana.
