Sacred Space

“This is a sacred space”, she said,

“Of protection and unity”.

Like a mother-bird, I thought - protecting its chicks in its nest

From an icy-cold night,

Blanketing them, enveloping them with love,

The very fibres in her body’s biology and wings are a protection,

And the little chicks crouch down under their mother,

Warmly snug, for now -

A guise of protection can only last so long,

Particularly in inclement elements,

or extreme circumstances that eventually risk one’s health -

You feel your mind gravitating back,

If only my parents did this, or said this, then maybe things would have…

You understand this too, don’t you?

But face it, you’ve got to relinquish that temptation,

That hold to change and control the past,

Or else it irrevocably (and sometimes drastically)

Alters the present and,

You’re exactly where you are meant to be,

Right now!

Your knowledge has brought you here,

And it’s meant to be shared,

Not a perfunctory repetition, but a lesson,

Even Sondheim says to “honour their mis-takes, every-body makes”.

They did the did the best they knew how at the time.

And yet, sometimes, it’s okay to go searching for a safe space,

Outside that familial unit,

A Sacred Space, an unequivocally open space,

To share, to grow and to evolve.

Warmly snug, for now -

This was so beautiful written! I brought me inner peace and was really relatable for me in the sense that it gave me a safe space to process feelings I had long forgotten! Great work Grz!

We all look for that safe space and try to make others feel safe but its always a process. We gain wisdom through our experiences

We just read this a couple days ago and really loved it.❤️ Came back to tell you and also to let you know (hope you don't mind) that we gave it a shout-out on a recent bloggy piece called Ephemeral Beauties. We see so many beautiful stories and poems that get little attention because they essentially "time out" on Vocal. We're encouraging people to not lose some gems just because they were written a month ago or a year ago💙Anneliese

Well done, I'm at a loss... I tend to feel I'm a sum of my mistakes as opposed to my knowledge but I enjoyed this. Thank you.

  • I needed to read this. I'm currently in search of that Sacred Space. I hope to find it soon. This was a beautiful poem which was very relatable. I loved it!
