I still remember you texting me to look at the moon. "It's all orangey and sh*t."

Hey Girlie - that's what you called me.

I was desperate to be something to you

With your twinkling eyes, your laugh and your birthday in June.

But just like that, plans changed and I was gone too soon.

A year passes by and I'm back in Texas.

Met up at the museum and you said it was kismet.

But it was complicated; you were going back to school and I came with strings attached.

Hey Girlie, it doesn't have to be over

I'll do the drive from Houston to Dallas

And we can make this work.

But you were sending me snail mail

Dropping breadcrumbs 'bout feelings.

Keeping it short, say you had a good time

But every time I wanted to see you, you'd ghost.

I got the hint, maybe next year, time will be right

and I'll drop you a line.

About the Creator

Sloan Li

Humiliated by a family member for sending away for publishing materials somewhere around the first grade, I locked my voice in a drawer. It's been too long, and it's time to open the drawer again. Imperfect and exposed- this is me.
