Skin like Glue
I didn’t say that out loud challenge
Even though I look like you
I won’t pretend that we’re like glue
Same skin, same hair, same thing
Steeped in crime
Tell me where have you been
Stuck in time
In every sin
This is why we are still – suffering
All the lies
You told me
Of the past
Hist- ory
Steeped in crime
This is why we are still suffer–ing
⚔️
Chasing our tails
Searching for praise
Begging for change
When it already came
⚔️
For-get the past
It’s over and it’s done with
I’ve had enough
⚔️
Same skin, same hair, same thing
Excuse for crime
Its always the same f*** thing
⚔️
Not worth my time
When we kill
Every dime
Every Bill
Everything that is good
⚔️
This is why we are still suffering
⚔️
Even though I look like you
I won’t pretend that we’re like glue
Same skin, same hair, same thing
⚔️
Now it’s a crime to tell the truth
That I don’t want to look like you
⚔️
They won’t believe that we are the few
Same skin, same hair, same thing
⚔️
There’s sin in the lies that you sing
Even when it’s caught on film
You release the hatred within
And back the man when he kills
Because he looks like you
⚔️
They won’t believe that I am in the few
That’s just what humans do
Through their trauma
In their drama
They won’t see us through
That’s just what humans do.
⚔️
I don’t want to look like you
I want to be like the few
Forgetting the pass…
⚔️
I won’t pretend that we are like glue.
A/N: I was on the toilet. Then this happened. Yes, when I was done I rushed to my room to start writing. Thank you so much if you got this far. 🤗🙏🏽♥️

hey, inspiration hits no matter where you are. I have stopped in the midst of a comment and go write my thoughts, they tend to fly so fast, Skin does not a person make.
This is fun on the surface with a deep and consequential message swimming underneath. Excellent and thought provoking poetry, Caitlin! Good luck on the challenge!
This is strong, Caitlin. As I always say and some people don’t like it, we are all individuals, different individuals.
This would make a great song!
Nice Caitlin, very nice. repeating the line " Same skin, same hair, same thing" really adds some punch to the poem
I especially loved the way you repeated certain lines. It really added more impact to the punch it gave. Loved this so much!
Feels like such a strong piece about letting the past go, or maybe fighting against someone you don't want to be, or both. I may not be interpreting it right; sorry if I'm not. But it had the reality of an internal conflict of the soul, and whoa was it powerful and poignant. Very well crafted, Caitlin. ❤️
Ooh, this piece packs a punch! Sometimes the hardest glue to break is the one we never chose. But you’re already making space to be different and that’s powerful. 💖😊
So powerful and so profound.
We all have similarities, but we are all different too. Good work.
Inspiration arrives when it arrives. I like that you rushed out because it is amazing how fast thoughts disappear. This is great. These lines stood out fir me -Now it’s a crime to tell the truth -Stuck in time
This speaks to the frustration of not being seen past surface similarities. Been there.
